  • Reflecting on the life and times of Pan-Africanist leader, Robert Sobukwe, 41 years on since his passing
"People don't really know who Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe was and the values he stood for", that was a comment made by one of our regular listeners Sbu in Dobsonville. Last month SACP's Solly Mapaila came under fire for his claims that one of the founders of the PAC, Robert Sobukwe, received preferential treatment during his incarceration on Robben Island. Mapaila has since apologized for his comments. Yesterday marked 41 years since the passing of Sobukwe. As we remember the passing away of this popular Pan-Africanist leader and thinker, we will reflect on his life, values and ideas...

  • Are young South Africans becoming more and more hardened?
Yesterday the Limpopo education department expressed shock at the gruesome video on the brutal murder of 27 year old Thoriso Themane. Themane was reportedly at a park in Flora Park suburb when he was beaten up by a group of youngsters. The group of young people who carried this act are said to be in a gang. Gangsterism in South African townships is a common occurrence. Post-apartheid South Africa is riddled with poverty and unemployment, especially for the marginalised township youth, making them vulnerable to the practice. But this morning we are asking what is at the root of more and more young people becoming violent? What is a psychological make-up of a young person, with violent tendencies?
