The Black Management Forum (BMF) says it has written a letter to Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to establish whether there was no black person who could have filled the position of group chief executive of arms manufacturer DENEL. This after cabinet approved the appointment of Daniel du Toit to the position with effect from January the 14th, 2019. Du Toit recently vacated a position as managing director at SAAB Medav Technologies in Germany. Before that, he was chief operating officer of SAAB Grintech Defence in South Africa, where he served in several senior management positions. Du Toit began his career in the SANDF. We are now in conversation with Mpumalanga MEC for Education, Sbusiso Malaza, about the state of education in the province. The class of 2018 for Mpumalanga Province obtained an overall pass rate of 79% compared to the 74.8% pass rate obtained in 2017. The statistics depict a 4.2% improvement. MEC Sbusiso Malaza has attributed the improvement to support displayed by education stakeholders. Malaza says the province is now targeting to be among the best three in the country. He has committed to introducing a programme that will support all the schools that obtained below 70 per cent in the province.

A week after crucial elections to replace long-term president Joseph Kabila, the DR Congo was on tenterhooks Sunday with no date for the announcement of delayed results and just over half of ballots counted. Opposition parties in the Democratic Republic of Congo have called the postponement in the announcement of provisional election results in the presidential election, a ploy by the government to sway the vote towards President Joseph Kabila's preferred candidate Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary.

This morning we will pay tribute to a man who played a major part in South Africa's Freedom and Democracy. A man known as the ‘Lion of the North'. A man who would have been turning 60 years old today. Who is this man? Here are more clues; he was expelled from school after becoming a leader of school boycotts during the 1976 uprisings. He was a founding member of the South African Youth Congress (SAYCO), becoming its first President at its launch in 1987, then became the ANC Youth League president in December 1991 a position he held until January 1994. Still no clue? Well I am talking about the late ANC MP Peter Mokaba, a widely-respected leader and former Deputy Minister of Environment Affairs and a Member of the ANC NEC.

The ANC's national leadership says it is confident that its upcoming national events in KwaZulu-Natal will be successful, despite organisational problems in some regions. Both the January 8th statement and the Election Manifesto launch will be held in the embattled KwaZulu-Natal province. The party believes it still enjoys significant support in the province despite pockets of infighting in some regions.

The National Lotteries Commission is warning the public about illegal lotteries operating in South Africa. The Commission says there are opportunistic operators offering bets on results of the National Lottery and lotteries from other countries with the intention to target unsuspecting players, by acting as agents to place bets on behalf of South Africans in the UK and USA lotteries.

Recently ANC branches nominated former president Jacob Zuma to the party list is a strong statement regarding the state of the party, while he is still ANC NEC Member. Recently President Jacob Zuma posted videos on his social media, saying he supports nationalizing land. This as the country's ruling party takes steps to change the country's constitution to make it easier to take it without compensation. Many people have criticized him for causing confusion, and asked why he not addressed the issue land while he was still president, while others were saying he should allow for President Cyril Ramaphosa lead the country. The ANC says the Methodist Church of South Africa has implored it to allow the Presiding Bishop, Ziphozihle Siwa, to internally deal with the allegations against one of its reverends. The governing party has announced that the Reverend Vukile Mehana who is also the Chaplain-General of the ANC will no longer officiate at the ANC's January 8th Statement in Durban next week. This comes after the derogatory utterances Mehana allegedly made relating to female church ministers.
