U.S President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday morning that South Africa has started seizing land from white farmers and that he has asked the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo to 'closely study look into the matter. Trump's comments have sparked heated debates over land expropriation, especially in a country that remains deeply racially divided and unequal. Rumours are rife that this will have a negative impact on relations. Also the rand dropped more than 1.5% against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday following Trump's tweet. Should this matter be a cause for concern? Will it have any bearing on the relations between South Africa and the U.S?
