The National Health Insurance Bill has been gazetted. Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi was releasing details on the NHI Bill and the Medical Schemes Amendment Bill, yesterday in Pretoria. Dr Motsoaledi says the first amendment in the medical schemes bill is to abolish co-payments, which means that the full cost of care should be charged to medical schemes. Meanwhile, the Free Market Foundation has questioned the government's motives relating to the NHI scheme, the foundation says the scheme and amendments are "unequivocal violations of South Africans' constitutional rights to freedom of association and access to healthcare".
