As South Africans commemorated Youth Day yesterday that issue of unemployment amongst the country's youth dominated addresses by various party leaders. In his address at the official commemorations in Soweto, President Cyril Ramaphosa heeded the call for job creation and urged the private sector and big companies to employ graduates as part of efforts to bring down the high unemployment rate. Described as the world’s largest international choir competition, the World Choir Games comes at a time when South Africa is commemorating the centenary of former President Nelson Mandela's birth. Madiba, who passed away on 5 December 2013, would have turned 100 on 18 July 2018. The World Choir Games invites all non-professional choirs globally to participate. The competition offers a platform for competitive choirs as well as choirs with relatively little international experience to compete. Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) have ordered the release of former Democratic Republic of Congo rebel leader and Vice-President Jean-Pierre Bemba. Last week, appeal judges overturned his 2016 conviction on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Bemba is yet to be sentenced for the separate charge of bribing witnesses. On the twenty-first of March 2016, the Trial Chamber had found Bemba guilty beyond reasonable doubt as a military commander responsible for two counts of crimes against humanity (murder and rape) and three counts of war crimes (murder, rape, and pillaging) committed in the Central African Republic between October 2002 and March 2003. The Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
in South Africa: A Brief Review released by Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation(CSVR) GBV cannot be attributed to a single factor, but an interplay of individual, community, economic, cultural and religious factors interacting at different levels of society. All these factors ranging from gender inequalities between men and women, social constructions of hegemonic masculinities, social perceptions of what it means to be a man, normalisation of violence, and cultural practices such as lobola and ukuthwala, which were addressed in the report.

The South African Youth Chamber of Commerce (SAYCC) is calling upon all the municipalities to employ qualified Young professionals in the accounting field to manage their finances and get rid of illiterates who are deployed to collapse the municipalities by the political parties. According to the SAYCC South Africa is faced with a mounting crisis of unemployed graduates, and these unemployed, yet qualified graduates are an answer to the current challenges facing municipalities due to poor administration and collapse in governance.
