Leading platinum producer, Lonmin, Is set to shed thousands of jobs following its planned sale of the company to the mining giant, Sibanye-Stillwater. Last week Lonmin announced that it would be shedding about 12,600 jobs, in the next three years. The mining company will also retrench 3,700 workers in the current financial year. Young people are definitely a demographic that is both passionate and energetic. Young people constitute 41.2% (20.5 million) of the total population. Youth in 2015 were definitely not apathetic, and they expressed this as we saw them taking ownership of their issues and saying things need to change as we saw in #FeesMustFall. In 1976 we saw with the youth uprising that young people have the potential to organize and come up with solutions which are able to change their circumstances.
How then can those in power, be it government or business leaders channel this energy and ideas, and involve young people in coming up with solutions on issues that involve them?

10 defaulting municipalities owe Eskom a combined nine-point-eight, billion rands. The standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) has resolved to meet with the municipalities to find out why they are not paying their debts. The Tune Recreation Committee (TRC) presents their first southern African music tour entitled The Future Is Now. Cash-in-transit heists have increased dramatically over the past year, according to the South African Banking Risk Information Council, Sabric. This follows several attacks on Cash-in-transit vans in recent weeks. Sabric's statistics show that there were 378 robberies in 2017. In 2016, 268 cash vans were attacked during the same period.
