The Gospel of John opens with a description of Jesus as the Word of God. He was in the beginning with God and was God. All of creation came through Him, and He is the light of the world.

In verse 14, the Apostle John, one of the twelve disciples, gives us two important promises about Jesus.

The first is that God became flesh. The creator God stepped into His creation. He took on our form and walked among us and experienced our world. In doing so, He understands the struggles and problems each of us face.

Where all other religions require people to sacrifice and work to be good enough for God, Christianity has God stepping down to our level.

The second promise is about the uniqueness of Jesus.

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6

From the moment Adam and Eve brought sin into the world, God had a plan. Their rebellion and disobedience were no surprise to the creator God. He promised, right in the garden, that one would come who would crush the head of Satan and restore what sin had destroyed.

The prophet Isaiah echoed what God said in the garden with new details of who this person would be. God would send a child that would bring the peace God had promised. For hundreds of years, the people of God waited and longed for the appearance of this child. Though they could not see it, God was working to bring about His plan of salvation to the world.

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

What does it mean for the word of Christ to dwell in you? It means you allow God's Word to take up residence. You have allowed God's word to become such part of your heart and mind that it is entirely at home in you. It's the picture of a good friend who comes to your house and feels totally welcomed and relaxed.

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly so you can live with wisdom and encourage everyone around you.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. - Hebrews 10:23

Every promise of God is worth holding onto. When God makes a promise, you can be certain He will fulfill it.

When God makes a promise, He keeps it. The basis of our faith is God's faithfulness to fulfill His promise.

God's faithfulness is connected to His character. Because we know He is faithful, we can claim the promises He has made.

God's own character and holiness back every promise God has made. God can no more fail to fulfill a promise; than He can fail to be God.
