  • FEELING STAGNANT & STUCK? | BMS | EP 067

If the world is moving forward and you’re not, that means you’re not current, you’re behind…and you’re actually regressing. Where are you becoming stagnant in your business? Where are you feeling stuck? In this week’s episode, Danielle & Ani take on this important conversation and present five of the “Ten Reasons Why Your Business Could Be Stagnant…and What To Do About It – Part 1.”

In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..PRODUCTION Point #1: COMMUNICATION
    • Danielle finds that many stylists are scared to have certain conversations with their clients, especially when it comes to raising their prices. She suggests going into a conversation with the mindset of ‘this is business.’ “Speak with clarity and give your client a chance to either stay with you or go with someone else. Remember, your client is a transaction.”
    • Ani believes, “You don’t have to take it personally. If they choose to leave, it’s not them saying ‘I hate you’ or ‘I don’t like you.’ As artists, we take it personally because our art IS personal and we don’t understand why they would want to go to anyone else, especially after we have done such a good job on their hair.”
    QUESTION

In what ways do you take it personally when a client leaves and takes their business elsewhere? How can embracing the reality that clients are a transaction make your life easier?

    Point #2: IT’S NOT A GOOD FIT
    • Sometimes you and a client are simply not a good fit, especially when they want you to do something that you know, in good conscience, is not good for their hair.
    • You want to make your client happy, AND you also must take a firm stand on what you will and will not do, based on your experience as a professional.
    QUESTION

How are your conversations with your clients when it comes to your professional opinion about what you will and will not do?

Point #3: SLAVE BEHIND THE CHAIR
    • Ani: How does being a slave behind the chair keep you stagnant? We have artists who come into BMS making no money but are working six days a week, and then once they start crushing it in NBR & BMS, they’re STILL working six days a week, bringing in $40k-$50k a month…BUT they are STILL slaves behind the chair.
    • Danielle: I get it. The money can be kind of addicting. It’s hard to say no to people. My advice? If you don’t want to be a slave behind the chair, you have to set clear boundaries for yourself and STICK TO THEM.
    QUESTION

Where do you see yourself in all of this? Are you a salve behind the chair? Or, have you been able to make the shift out of that position?

    Point #4: KNOW YOUR NUMBERS
    • There are usually two camps inside of this. You’re either the person who says, ’I’m fucking crushing it!” but in reality, you’re not. OR, you’re the person who says, ‘Oh my God, I’m doing terrible!” … until you look at your numbers and realize you’re doing really well.
    • Artists have approached Ani expressing how they felt they were not doing well…UNTIL they started running their numbers. Oftentimes when artists begin tracking their numbers and compare their current numbers to past years’ pre-BMS/NBR numbers, what they’re finding is their numbers are doubling and tripling.
    QUESTION

What has been the biggest eye-opener for you since you started tracking your numbers?

Point #5: YOU FEEL ALONE & ISOLATED
    • ANI: So often we think we don’t need anybody and can do everything by ourselves… but we don’t realize how much HARDER it is to be alone. Plus, when you’re alone, it’s your pace and ONLY yours that you’re looking at. It’s also easier to fall into the victim and blame mentality.
    • DANIELLE: People lose momentum because they don’t have that community. This is why people want to get back into BMS Mastermind. Not only are they noticing that they’re becoming stagnant but they’re also realizing they’re losing momentum and don’t have the results, which ultimately means they’re digressing. When you surround yourself with people who are doing what you want to do, it pushes you forward, faster
    QUESTION

What has been your experience with this?

    Quote of the Week:

“If you’re that business owner who’s running on the hamster wheel because you can’t let go, I want you to keep in mind that it’s most likely keeping you a slave behind the chair AND a slave to your business. It’s also keeping you very stagnant.”

    —Danielle K White

“I feel if you are wanting to progress to a level six and you’re at a level three, you can’t keep hanging out with people who are at a level three. You should probably be hanging out with people you aspire to become.”

    –Anianne Rivera

  • TAKING A STAND | BMS | EP 066

Welcome to the Big Money Stylist Podcast with co-hosts Danielle K White and Anianne Rivera. The conversation inside this week's episode includes the importance of taking a stand in your life and also explores the ten top reasons why people don't start something (business or project) even after feeling inspired to do so.

In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week's Episode…..Power Point #1: SELF DOUBT
    • Ani: When it comes to a dream or idea that you've always wanted to accomplish, it's so freaking scary that instead of immediately thinking 'I got it' the first thought is usually 'I can't do that!'
    • When Garrett suggested to Danielle that she start a brand, what initially held her back was that the idea of a brand didn't even live in the realm of possibility for her. "I could be inspired by others but never once considered it for myself."
    QUESTION

In what area of your life do you tend to experience the most self-doubt?

    Point #2: I DON'T HAVE TIME
    • Danielle: The lazier I get, the less I'll do, but if I'm super busy, the more likely I am to MAKE time. The thing is, there's always time; it's just a matter of prioritizing what to choose to do with that time. It's a matter of consolidating and prioritizing and deciding what will push you forward, and what you value the most.
    • As professional businesswomen with massive amounts of responsibility on their plates, Danielle and Ani have chosen to prioritize their life to include the things that are most important to them, including family time and time for themselves.
    QUESTION

What can you do to prioritize your time in order to make room for what's most important to you?

Point #3: WHERE DO I START?
    • When you're beginning a project or wanting to start a business, it can seem so overwhelming in the beginning as you think about everything that you need to do, which stops many people from moving forward. And many women think that committing to something will take time away from their children, which is the opposite of what they want.
    • Ani: Just because you have children, it doesn't mean that you have to be with them – or that they even want to be with you – 24/7. Danielle: You can commit to being a mom AND doing something else; it all comes down to a choice.
    QUESTION

What have you been considering doing as a mom with kids but have been putting it off?

    Point #4: TARGETS & PASSIONS
    • Danielle: If you look at the big picture, which is a year's worth of goals and targets, you've got to remember that you're not going to accomplish these in a week. If you think that way, you'll go nuts. The key is creating calendars and then setting realistic goals and targets each month, one week at a time.
    • Ani: A lot of people have these big ideas and dreams of things they would love to do. But if it's not your passion, that's going to make it a thousand times harder. I've been here for eighteen months and yet it feels like I've been here for five years. The more moves you make – and the quicker you're willing to make them – the faster that timeline moves.
    QUESTION

What is one thing you can do today to begin creating realistic targets towards your dreams?

    Point #5:  LACK OF CONSISTENCY
    • Throughout their careers, both Danielle and Ani have learned that staying consistent has been the key to their success. The thing to remember though is this: when you're starting out at something, you're going to be shitty. That's just how it is.
    • Danielle: It's hard to be passionate about staying consistent when you know you suck at what you're doing. But it's through consistency that, over time, you realize how far you've come, eventually becoming an expert in your field. Don't underestimate the small consistencies on a daily basis that ultimately can create huge wins in your life.
    QUESTION

Where in your world do you lack consistency?

    Quote of the Week:

"Don't underestimate the small consistencies on a daily basis that can ultimately create huge wins in your life."

    —Danielle K White

"You just have to make a decision. Are you going to let these reasons hold you back? Or, are you going to acknowledge that you have no idea how you're going to accomplish your dream… and then ask yourself, 'What's the first thing I need to do?' Do that. Then take it step by step."

  • TRAIN WRECKS | BMS | EP 065

Are you the train wreck that people can’t stop watching? Do you spread gossip and negativity on social media? Or do you use Social Media as a tool to share and connect with others and to find inspiration? These are some of the questions addressed inside this week’s episode of the Big Money Stylist with your co-hosts Danielle White and Anianne Rivera.

In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..Power Point #1: SOCIAL MEDIA TROLLS
    • People who troll others on social media get a sense of purpose and validation from doing that. This attracts more haters and sparks even more negative conversation and energy.
    • Danielle believes that “people who troll don’t give themselves permission to have success in life. They get stuck in their stories and patterns and don’t realize this puts a cap on what they can make and what they can do, literally preventing them from breaking through that threshold.”
    QUESTION

Where in your world do you know that you are the one creating negative energy?

Point #2: REBUILD & MOVE FORWARD
    • Ani: “Everyone goes through shit in life. Some shit will break you, and then you rebuild yourself. Some stuff dings you, while other things crack you. It’s a matter of rebuilding yourself and moving forward.”
    • “But some people are so stuck in the story of being a victim that they’re not even willing to go outside of it and see what’s on the other side because it’s all they know. They only know how to be mean and nasty; they only know how to spread vile and shit everywhere.”
    QUESTION

Where in your world have you made a comeback and re-built your life?

    Point #3: TAKE A STAND
    • The more you take a stand on anything, the more kick-back you’re going to receive. If you don’t have the guts to put yourself out there, how do you expect to make it further in life and in business?
    • Danielle: “We teach our students to put out their content and then “put your blinders on.” Learn to take a stand, and then be prepared for the punches that roll in.”
    QUESTION

Where in your life or inside your business do you know it’s time to take a stand, come what may?

Point #4: ARE YOU THE TRAIN WRECK?
    • Ani: “Do you see yourself as a train wreck? Everywhere you post, are you just talking shit on other people and bringing out the negativity? You don’t have to be Positive Polly but you can say, “Today was a shitty day, and here’s what I did to turn it around.” Or, “Here’s how I felt. Has anyone ever felt like this?”
    • “At this point, I’m pretty much an open book and have nothing to hide. I’m not embarrassed about any decision I have ever made or anything I’ve ever said, nor am I embarrassed about where I am in my life right now. I LOVE my life both professionally and personally and am grateful for everything in it.”
    QUESTION

Are you the train wreck that people just can’t stop watching?

Point #5:  BEING OK WITH LETTING GO
    • Having been raised inside the strict bubble of Mormonism, Danielle and Garrett began questioning everything they believed. Danielle felt like she was shrinking from the voices all around her telling her what to do, and in that space, there came a point where they had to be ok with letting go of certain relationships for a time.
    • “From my own experience, I know if you have tunnel vision, even with your family and friends, and you just focus on you and do what you know you need to do, you WILL see results. Remember, results speak louder than words.”
    QUESTION

Where in your world have you experienced this?

    Quote of the Week:

“As I scroll through social media, sometimes I’ll get triggered, so I ask myself, “Why is that triggering me? Is there a piece of truth in what I’m reading?”

    —Danielle K White

“There’s a purpose behind what we do. We stay here because we love it, because it’s important and because this is what we’re supposed to do. There’s something inside of us that fuels it.”

  • What's Your Vision? | BMS | EP 064

Welcome to this episode of the Big Money Stylist with your hosts Danielle and Ani who can hardly contain themselves as they share all of the new things happening inside the beautiful world of BMS and NBR. They also engage in an in-depth conversation about the role of egos and the slippery slope of entitlement.

In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week's Episode…..Power Point #1: ISLA
    • The unveiling of Danielle's much-anticipated hair line, ISLA, is just around the corner and is only going to be available for the students inside of BMS Mastermind. The quality of the hair is top-notch and has been tested and rested by Danielle herself to ensure quality.
    • It's also going to make an artist's jobs easier. There are twelve essential foundational colors where everything is pre-rooted, pre-toned, more grams per weft, and less silicone. In laymen's terms, it's the best of the best.
    QUESTION

What are the issues you're having with the hair currently available to you?

Point #2: Get Off the Fence
    • The doors of BMS (Natural Beaded Rose education) are closing in April for the rest of 2019 to any new students, so if you're on the fence, now is the time to take action.
    • Among the other benefits of being a student, with the shortage of hand-tied hair, not only will you have access to ISLA, but you will also get it at the wholesale cost.
    QUESTION

Where are you in the qualification process?

Point #3: BMS = Business, Marketing & Sales
    • BMS is the acronym for Big Money Stylist but some students inside the program are referring to it as Business, Marketing, and Sales. "Everybody has a preconceived notion about what is possible to make, or where they need to live in order to make this work," but BMS blows the lid off those stories.
    • Ani: One of our platform artists who works five days a week, has one employee, one assistant, 2-3 chairs, and a tiny salon did $75k of her own sales in February.
    QUESTION

How has your income changed since incorporating NBR and BMS into your business?

    Point #4: You've Been Declined
    • In order to be admitted into BMS Mastermind, one of the requirements is to fill out an application, each of which is individually read by head trainer, Ani. She's the one who gives either the stamp of approval or the letter of denial.
    • Grounds for denial include: 1-you are not currently licensed 2-you're currently not doing hair or 3-how you respond to the questions. While it might be perfectly natural to have the thought that you already know all there is to know about hair and business, placing that on an application is not the way to get your foot in the door.
    QUESTION

Inside your world, what has been your experience when you have had the attitude of knowing it all?

Point #5:  Show Me the Money
    • As an artist inside a salon, if you find yourself at a crossroads and are trying to do things differently, the best way to approach your boss is to show them the numbers. Don't just tell them your vision, SHOW them the numbers and the potential.
    • In the long run, egos and entitlement can only serve you to a certain point. If you're that person that says it's not possible to make "that kind of money," you're selling yourself short. If you don't have an open mindset, that leaves you stuck in your beliefs of what you think is possible.
    QUESTION

How has expanding your vision of what is possible opened up your world?

    Quote of the Week:

"As business, hair, and marketing evolve, you also have to evolve if you want to keep up with this game."

    —Danielle K White

"Our artists are having massive results, ranging anywhere from $10k up to $75k per month!"

    –Anianne Rivera

  • Systems & Processes | BMS | EP 063

The girls are back this week sharing stories, experiences, and plenty of laughs in this episode of the Big Money Stylist.  Danielle and Ani describe how having a Salon Manager and having systems in place make all the difference in the world in all facets of the business.

In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..POWER Point #1: Salon Managers
    • Both Danielle and Ani agree that if you have a full salon and don’t have a Salon Manager you can FULLY TRUST, or software in place to assist in the managing, you’re pretty much fucked. And by the way, do not make the mistake of giving this job to one of your hair stylists.
    • When she first opened her Salon, Danielle used to manage everything on her own. As her salon grew and expanded, she reached the point where it all eventually became too overwhelming for her to manage on her own.
    QUESTION

What is your experience with Salon Managers? What difference have they made in your salon?

    Point #2: Juggling Too Much?
    • Danielle: I’m very clean and appear to be very put together…but I’m not. I’m very passionate and driven, artistic and detail oriented…but there’s a BIG difference between being organized and being detailed. And then if there’s too much detail, I get overwhelmed.
    • Even if you’re detail oriented, when you’re trying to juggle too many things, shit falls apart. And then when you’re looking to add people to your team, you have this thought of “nobody can do it my way.” But.. is your way always the most effective way?
    QUESTION

How has trying to juggle it all worked out for you?

    Point #3: Follow-up & Referrals
    • Nothing says cheap hair like “Text me for appointments!” When you do this, you’re not taking yourself seriously, nor are you gathering pertinent information. Not only that, people tend to slip through the cracks this way.
    • Danielle and Ani teach their artists that they will have better results in creating longevity with their current clients when they follow-up with them rather than going with the churn and burn mentality. It’s great to have social media for marketing, but oft times the gold is in the referrals.
    QUESTION

Are you currently adhering to the churn and burn mentality? What is one thing you can do to change that?

Point #4: You’re On the List
    • You take yourself and your business more seriously by staying organized and creating systems, collecting information from clients, and creating a better overall client experience inside of your own space and salon, whether you’re doing it by yourself or you have a whole team working behind you or with you.
    • Danielle: Sometimes as small business owners, we forget to have the bigger mindset like Nordstroms or Bloomingdales where once you become their customer, you’re on their list and you begin receiving a stream of steady emails in your inbox. Sometimes you’re annoyed, and other times you’re really glad they sent you that suggestion or tip.
    QUESTION

What system to you have in place that captures clients’ emails and other pertinent information?

Point #5:  What Is It Costing You?
    • Danielle: The moral of this story is, if you’re in business, start creating better habits, patterns, and behaviors right now; start utilizing systems and actually figure out how to use them so they benefit you.
    • Educate yourself more on marketing and not just posting a pretty photo and saying “text or dm me.” Systems are created to free up space to enable us to do our Art. What is the cost of trying to “do it all,”especially if you’re a mom?
    QUESTION

As you step back and take a look at your business, what is one system you can add that will ultimately free up time and space for you?

    Quote of the Week:

“Systems free up your time and enable you to concentrate on the art.”

    –Danielle K White

“ALL of my time, energy and space – EVERYTHING – goes to my artists inside of BMS and Mastermind.”

    –Anianne Rivera

  • Setting the Frame | BMS | EP 062

The White's are in the studio this week having a conversation about the importance of clear communication and framing as an Artist, especially within the elite luxury experience of Danielle's creation, Natural Beaded Rows. *This is an encore presentation of a previously recorded episode.

Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week's Episode…..PRODUCTION Point #1: The Bigger Picture
    • In 2010, Garrett was the man behind the camera filming Danielle's first educational videos for the Natural Beaded Rows Extension method she created.
    • While editing her first video, the thought of "Who do you think you are?" entered Danielle's mind, which thought was quickly replaced with, "You have no idea how many people this is going to impact."
    QUESTION

Where did your journey begin as an artist?

    Point #2: Clear Communication
    • Artists have to powerfully communicate with clients what they're going to do before the appointment begins.
    • As an artist, you must own that you're the expert. It's your job to lay out the facts and the outcomes so the client knows exactly what to expect.
    QUESTION

How do you set yourself apart as the expert?

Point #3: Framing Inside of Seduction
    • Framing is the reality when it comes to seduction and assisting people to make better decisions. It's the ability to put a particular story around the way someone views something.
    • What framing does is create for the individual who is going to buy from you price elasticity. Our story about what we're going to pay for something opens up and actually becomes something bigger because of the new frame.
    QUESTION

How are you framing the experience your clients receive?

Point #4: NBR is the Bently of Extensions
    • When you're dealing with high-end services, you've eliminated 90% of the marketplace. Let them go somewhere else.
    • When we talk about Natural Beaded Rose, we're talking about a luxury product that helps people change the way they see themselves.
    QUESTION

What elite experience do you provide for your clients?

    Point #5:  Communication Equals Cash
    • The conversation of power inside of a frame of elite services exists when the client is in the chair, but they've already moved themselves into that place.
    • Pricing and communication become simpler because you've already been communicating the value of that service from the very beginning.
    QUESTION

What can you do to improve the way you communicate with your clients about the services you're providing?

    Quote of the Week:

"What framing does is create for the individual who is going to buy from you, price elasticity."

    –Garrett J White

"When you have a niche or specialty, you can get away with charging a little more. Part of it is because you're an expert in that niche."

    –Danielle K White
