The Point: Capricorn

Mainly, Dave explores the sign of the Zodiac, Capricorn. First, he gives a disclaimer on astrology. Mostly, Dave lists off positive and negative traits. For instance, Capricorns exhibit self control, yet they suffer from stress. Moreover, Dave shows how Saturn influences those born under this sign. Saturn represents the father. Therefore, Capricorns may exhibit a critical and stern attitude.

Avengers Endgame

We review Avengers Endgame in this podcast. First, we recount our experience at the cinema. That is, the theater cancels our first screening because of technical problems. Therefore, we use passes to go to a 10:50 showing. Why so late of a showing? Well, we emceed and performed a couple of improv shows that night. Also, Brandi laments a less enthusiastic crowd. Furthermore, we give up our luxury seating. All the while, Brandi struggles with a cold virus. Meanwhile, Dave gets distracted by deliveries and suburban neighborhood noises.

Endgame Review

In our review, we attempt to discuss Avengers Endgame by first talking about the characters. We look at the central six. For instance, we explore the dual arcs of Iron Man and Captain America. Also, we follow the parallels of Hawkeye and Black Widow. Finally, we see what happens with Thor and The Hulk. Additionally, we touch upon how other characters move the story.

We also touch upon themes, whether themes of guilt and despair or themes of hope and aspiration. Moreover, we answer some criticisms. That is, we look at how Captain Marvel is used. Also, Dave explains why the appearance of Ant-Man is not as absurd as it seems.

Meanwhile, we look forward to the Marvel TV series on Disney Plus. Also, we wonder what future Marvel films may entail. For example, what can we expect from Spider-man: Far from Home?

FanX 2019 Spring

The Dark Corner Podcast reports from both days of the Salt Lake FanX 2019 Spring Comics Convention. That is, we visit celebrity row. Also, we visit vendor and artist booths on the convention floor. Furthermore, we attend a number of panels. Finally, Brandi cohosts a panel on Star Trek: Discovery.

Panels

We begin FanX 2019 Spring by attending the Droid Builders panel. For instance, we learn how 3D printing has affected the builder community. Also, we discover how drone technology has led to building flying droids. Additionally, we attend the Garret Wang panel. Garret tells engaging stories and impersonates many of his Star Trek family members. Finally, We catch the last moments of Warwick Davis‘s panel.

Celebrity Row

On the first day, we hunt for autographs. That is, we take advantage of the lighter traffic. Within an hour, we manage to collect autographs from Garret Wang, Asher Angel and Tyler Hoechlin. On the second day, we wait hours in line for Zachary Levi. Meanwhile, Brandi struggles to get the autograph of Clark Gregg only to discover a Special Guest badge grants VIP status.

FanX 2019 Spring Convention Floor

We visit a number of artist and vendor booths. That is, we pick up some handmade soap. Also, Brandi picks up some new art and a couple of upcycled journals made from comic books. Also, we encounter Tony Todd and have a long discussion about cats. Furthermore, Brandi finds writer, Jonathan Maberry, at the Bard’s Tower. We also catch the last half of his interview.

Star Trek: Discovery Panel

Finally, Brandi hosts a panel with Hayley Stoddart and Zachary Fruhling of Trek.fm. Together, they discuss season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery. They acknowledge characters and moments, discuss story and theme, and honor specific episodes. Furthermore, they open the floor for questions and comments.

A Tribute to The Cure

In this tribute to The Cure, DJ Evil Dave compiles ten covers of songs by the influential post punk band. Meanwhile, the songs follow in order of release across multiple albums. Also, Dave speaks briefly about the band and his experience as a fan.

The Dark Corner Podcast honors The Cure’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the following ten cover songs. The songs follow in order of release across multiple albums, including one single and a soundtrack song.

From The Cure’s more gothic and literary phase, we start with A Forest by Noir from the album Darkly Near. Next is Funeral Party by Hermetic Delight from Revolution – The Shoegaze Revival. The first track from Alfa Matrix’s tribute to The Cure is Charlotte Sometimes (Club Mix) by Kant Kino featuring Mari Kattman. Finally, Astral Grey performs The Figurehead from Twin Cities Electropunk Volume 1.

In the second half, the songs cover The Cure’s more popular phase. For instance, Mickle Blvd performs and instrumental version of Shake Dog Shake. We recorded Anime Woodstock Talk Show from a live performance at the Comedy Loft in Ogden, Utah. Brave & Dandi perform a two-person, location based long form improv comedy show. That is, We perform a dozen scenes with different characters in various locations.We start with a bad trip at Anime Woodstock. After that, we journey into a woman’s mind. A fourteen year old boy rides in the backseat with his date towards his first dance. Also, Tar and Nicotine resent the popularity of vaping.

We get meta with a discussion after and improv show. Also, purgatory hosts a family reunion. Candies experience an existential crisis. Additionally, employees mess with the algorithm at Amazon’s data center. Meanwhile, nurses try to get some rest in the hospital’s lounge.

Also, two investigators witness more than they bargained for in a surveillance van. A disagreement occurs during no pants subway day. Finally, an awkward man hosts a late night talk show on public access television.

News

First, we bought tickets to see My Brother My Brother and Me live in Salt Lake City. These three brothers offer advice on a comedy podcast. Also, they answer questions on Yahoo Answers and maybe, just maybe talk about new food items or haunted dolls. Also, we bought tickets to see Eddie Izzard again. Eddie has performed stand-up comedy in many countries across the globe. His brand of absurdist humor features deep dives into religion, history, and politics. Eddie has completed several runs for charity and is a well known transvestite.

Captain Marvel

We saw Captain Marvel. Therefore, we address its place in feminist cinema. Meanwhile, we regard it as another film in the Marvel canon. That is, how does this film fit within the timeline? Also, we elaborate on the characters and their portrayal. Furthermore, we touch upon highlights of the plot. Additionally, we address the comedic tone of the film.

The Dark Track of the Fortnight

Gasher G.14 performs a gothic style of German folk rock. For example, Geschenkt features stripped down flute, piano, violin, and drum. Following that, a member of Starfleet speaks with the counselor on the Holodeck. Fan favorites, Frank and Deloris, trade barbs at a massage parlor. Also, two soldiers stationed in Korea discuss why they enlisted. Employees at a factory compare their different work ethics. Additionally, a theme park discriminates against a patron. Finally, a priest is led to doubt his mental health when confronted with a troublesome guest in the confessional.

International EBM Day

EBM Day 2019 features as the point in this episode of The Dark Corner. For the 24th of February, DJ Evil Dave curates ten choice tracks. For instance, he presents electronic body music, industrial and electro pop songs.

A four on the floor time signature combine with sequencers to create the rhythm. Also, bands prefer synthesizers to guitars. Meanwhile, the lead singer sounds clear if not a little modified. Lyrics tend to be chanted. Furthermore, samples from film and television may feature.
