I was talking with my son, Emmett, one day. He was worrying about how he was going to pay for his college tuition after returning from his mission.
Someone else he knew was stressing out about something else.
When Emmett thought about what they were going through, he said something profound that spoke write to his worrying mind.
I'm sharing with you today, that profound-ity. It's awesome and so true...even though we seem to believe the opposite when we are worrying.

We were on BYU's campus, touring with our twin girls, when several fears and worries came up.
Later that day, I had my own fears and worries.
Both of us were allowing ourselves to become victims of our worries, fears, and thoughts.
Life doesn't have to be that way.
This episode is about how to put aside victim-hood and step into creative power.

Every time I've begun exercising in the past, it's been about losing weight...
while I say to myself and other "I want to get healthy."
Last year, I decided I wanted to be the best version of myself.
In order to be the best version of myself, I knew that meant discipline, paying attention to what I put in my mouth, and taking better care of my body through exercise.
In this episode, I'll share why this fundamental change made the difference for me.

Why is it that some battles seem to be heroic while other battles seem to be shameful and hush hush...talked about only behind closed doors?
Why are some battles okay for us to ban together and fight against and others are lonely?
What can we do about it?

The first words I said to my husband were, "It's none of your business."
I thought he was a ladies' man and I didn't want to give him the time of day. He wasn't going to get me wrapped around his finger, too. No way.
I ended up being wrong about him being a ladies' man. And I ended up thinking he is the best darn guy around.
What we think about other people often ends up being about us.
Which also means, what other people think about us, is usually about them.
We all get to look at ourselves when we have a problem with someone.
Interesting how that works, right?

It's summer here in The States so we were at the pool.
We were all excited about and looking forward to an afternoon of swimming, hanging out, reading books on floats on the water while we got a bit of a tan.
We hadn't been to the pool yet and it felt like it was already half way through the summer.
Within about 20 minutes of arriving a total and complete downpour of a summer thunderstorm rained down out of the sky in buckets.
It was crazy.
In that moment we could have decided to be victims. Our perfect afternoon ruined.
Instead we decided something else.
In every moment we can decide whether we will be victims or creators.
We chose to be creators.
Sitting under an awning with a table somewhat free of the rain except for the golf ball sized holes that pour rain through them, we ate the picnic lunch we brought.
We laughed. And sat in amazement of the sheets of rain that came one after another.
When it looked like it wasn't going to let up, we ran for our car, getting drenched and laughing.
Victim. Creator.
We all get to choose in every moment of everyday.

One of the huge reasons I walk is so I can pay attention.
A nice side benefit is that it's good exercise for me.
Walking gives me the chance to go to a quiet place behind my house or over by a meadow.
I slow my mind down and listen.
This practice has changed the pace of my life and my thoughts.
What practice could you adopt today to slow down your pace and your thoughts?

A couple of years ago my twin girls turned 16 years old.
Typically, in The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, this means boys ask girls out and they go on double dates and fun group dates and do fun stuff. They spend time getting to know one another.
This did not happen for my girls.
I was tempting to give away their power and be bummed that boys weren't asking them out.
This episode is what they did instead...
