DIGITAL BIRTH CONTROL? YES. There's a Breakthrough App for That! Female Scientist and Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Elina Berglund, CTO and Founder of Natural Cycles and Dr. Juan Acuna, Director of Medical Health and Science Research at Florida International University created the only app for 'family planning' available in the US. They join me Live today at 11:40am eastern. A former CERN physicist, Dr. Elina Berglund's mission is to pioneer women’s health with research and passion and to empower every woman using modern technology and the ease of a smartphone. The “brain” behind this app is a smart algorithm that can accurately determine a woman’s daily fertility by analyzing changes in her basal body temperature, which increases after ovulation. To use Natural Cycles, women are required to take their temperature with a basal thermometer first thing in the morning and enter the information into the app. That data builds into a personalized fertility indicator that identifies green days, when no protection is needed, or red days, when they should use condoms or abstain from sex to prevent a pregnancy.

  • Can Raw Onions Prevent the Flu? Raw Onions Do NOT Absorb Germs

Can raw onion prevent the flu? For years I've been throwing out left over raw onions because I once heard they absorb germs and bacteria in the air and who the hell wants to eat a bacteria bomb? Last night I'm staring down my raw onion below, and decide to go see what those onion people had as an update on this! NOT TRUE. The onion peeps had a very clear update on this wives tale that dates back as far as the 1500s. Back then those 'wives telling tales' claimed that placing cut raw onions in rooms throughout a residence could protect its occupants from getting the bubonic plague. Long before germs were discovered, the dominant belief was contagious diseases were spread by miasma, or "noxious air." While false, this belief remained part of folk medicine through the 19th century claiming to ward off epidemics like smallpox, influenza, and other "infectious fevers." SO...According to the National Onion Association : 'There is no scientific evidence that a cut raw onion absorbs germs or rids the air of toxins/poisons.' Therefore a raw onion cannot prevent the flu. (This onion is now in the garbage anyway.)

PS Cannot figure out how to rotate my onion photo. Sorry I tried.

  • Creative Job Titles; Hamptons Off-Season - Chef Steve North, Fork Chocolate Company

Creative Job Titles On The Rise! Titles like "head of people" vs 'human resources" . More companies are sprucing up job titles as a way to attract talent in a tight labor market. In fact, In the past four years, the percentage of job postings seeking “head of people” has jumped more than threefold, according to job site Indeed.com. The story in WSJ.com

Meanwhile, ads seeking ninjas or rock stars—think “customer service ninja” or “sales rock star”—also have shot up.

Paul Wolfe, Indeed.com’s senior vice president of human resources, said the trend runs the risk of narrowing the applicant pool because many job seekers—particularly older ones—might not search more out-of-the-box terms as they scour job listings. Mr. Wolfe also cautioned that workers with more atypical-sounding titles on their résumés may find it more challenging to translate their work experience to new prospective employers.

Who Wants to Be a Ninja? Job Titles Get a Rebranding

    --

Rather than follow the crowds to join even bigger crowds...I like going to places that are in their 'off season' to avoid crowds! The Hamptons in Long Island, NY came to mind as an 'off season' destination choice . Got the word even though it's less crowded, it's still vibrant and happening this time of year. Weekenders love it for the apple orchards, colored leaves and vineyard tastings and those ‘in season ‘ scallops being harvested fresh from the Peconic Bay. Dinner reservations at cool places are much easier his time of year and there are fewer people everywhere. And cool things are happening! Like
'Dan's 12 Wines Of Christmas Holiday Dinner On December 8th. I was intrigued when my 'very merry' and 'uber talented' pal Chef Steve Biscari Amaral mentioned he's creating the seasonal farm to table food pairings with 12 (TWELVE) Long Island Wines at his North Fork Chocolate Company . (Twelve as in take an Uber to this shindig) Steve and his partner created an awesome fireplace warmed farmhouse/art gallery/chocolate/gift shop/venue and event space. Sounds just like the kind of place I'd like to be 'in' on the 'off' season. Check it out.

  • Power of intention! Linda Arroz's VO for Upcoming Badass Women Sundance Film

Here's a story about the power of intention! I got looped in to Linda Arroz's latest story when I caught her photo below on her FB page. Linda's from LA and is in what's called a 'looping session' for her character in an upcoming film debuting at the Sundance Film Festival called "Before You Know It" - written and directed by some 'badass women' she says. Linda's got a good story. She began her career in 1979 in Flint, Michigan, working at Chevrolet’s V8 Engine Plant as an assembly line worker, got laid off, and moved to Oklahoma to work at the GM Plant. Went to the University of Oklahoma and worked as an image and career consultant until she was discovered by two reps for the Spiegel catalog, which had just launched a plus-size division. They signed her as a spokesmodel making her one of the first plus-size models to get a contract with a major brand. She went on to be a magazine editor, author, Hollywood stylist , TV personality, and motivational speaker. Recently, (she's now 64), she was wanted to reboot her speaking career etc. so she started adding the following intention to her meditations “I get paid to speak.” ...Then one day... a neighbor stopped by...You can hear the rest of her story Live today on the show at 10am EST 1490 WGCH!
Her power of intention led to a speaking gig in a movie as an actor, and now she's been cast in another film and possibly one more for next year!

Linda sits on the board of Fashion Group International Foundation Los Angeles, is active in architectural preservation, and a member of the Los Angeles Conservancy Modern Committee. At one time she made the “25 Most Powerful Players” a list of influencers and power brokers in the Los Angeles fashion industry, by the California Apparel News.
