Is art still relevant?

As an artist, I have dedicated most of my life to the path of inspiration, dedication, and creation of my expression through artistic mediums. Poetry, music, even cooking for me carries an intention behind it, and I strive to make everything I do artistic. The search for truth and authenticity behind what can be incredibly vulnerable and challenging at times, is to me what art is; and I believe that the world needs more of it.

This week, I'm speaking with Nick Onken who has also been an artistic devotee in his life and explored it (quite successfully, I'll add) in a number of different mediums. We are discussing what art looks like in 2022, how the world of social media, algorithms, and instant access has changed the game, and whether art is still relevant and important as a medium for societal change.

What is the source of abundance?

You won't find me disagreeing with the concept that money is energy. I do believe that it is something that can be attracted to us, or pushed away from us consciously or unconsciously. In the spiritual world it can be a confronting and sometimes controversial topic, as we continue to navigate the adage that money is the root of all evil, a concept that a lot of us grew up hearing. But can you be wealthy and still be spiritual? And what does it really mean to be wealthy in the first place?

For this discussion I decided to dive deep with my friend Mia Magik; an influencer and entrepreneur herself, who is also a witch and devotes her work and energy to bringing a deep understanding of the abundance that the earth provides and how it translates into all different aspects of our life. We discuss the source of abundance, the purpose of wealth, and a little bit of our own stories of our journeys there.

Does the spiritual community have a narcissism problem?

We are all in search of answers. Answers to the higher purpose for our life, to the truth about God or consciousness, and much more. The problem with humans is it seems that the closer we get to what we consider to be the answer, the more entitled and invested we become to the "knowledge" itself. Narcissism is an interesting trait, because it almost carries with it the tendency to close our minds and hearts to further growth, or information. When we pretend, or even believe, that we know more than others around us; we run the risk of halting our own growth in the process.

I see this happening in the spiritual community, as it continues to become more trendy and "IG-worthy". That's why I brought my good friend Luke Kohen on to talk a little about his own experience of spiritual growth, and if he sees a risk of narcissism in a community whose core intention should truly be about inviting growth and change for all of us. Luke is an artist, entrepreneur, and someone who I have a high level of respect for because of the journey and work that he's done in his own spiritual walk.

How would a near-death experience change your life?

It doesn't happen to everyone, but for some of us; life can completely change in an instant. We've all heard stories of people who have had near death experiences, a sudden accident or illness, something that can change the perspective of what's really important in life. We hear these stories of the heroic recovery, the dedication and passion for life that is needed, and the new outlook that comes from some of these experiences. But, does that happen for everyone?

My guest this week is Aren Bahia, a Canadian entrepreneur and coach who has made his life in Bali all about empowering people and businesses. Aren is a pillar for his community, and a beacon of light for those around him, and 8 months ago was hospitalized after a motorcycle accident, unable to walk and almost dying. I've been fascinated with Aren's outlook in general, but wanted to dive a little deeper with him on what has changed for him in the process of his recovery and if there have been any major revelations around purpose or just life itself after such a traumatic experience.

What does it take to really grow?

A few weeks ago I led a retreat with my good friend Gerard Adams in the jungles of Peru where we Dove about as Deep as one can go, in my opinion, and sat with Ayahuasca. Though I have sat with the medicine many times in my life, this experience itself was a first for me in that we were actually guided through the process of harvesting and making the medicine. The connection that this provided was powerful for everyone in the group, and though it was a beautiful and expansive experience, it left me in a place of deep integration that has been challenging.

This week I want to talk about my experience not only with the plant medicine, but also what it has brought up and why I have found it one of the more challenging integrations after a ceremony that I've been through. These types of medicine journeys are always confronting, healing, and particularly when we are going through times of transition in our lives they can bring to the surface much more than we might know is actually going on within us. Love them or hate them, but dating apps seem like they're here to stay. The "swipe culture" of modern dating has changed a lot about the way that we interact in today's dating scene and in a lot of ways is a mirror for our society today. But do they work? And are the incentives to swipe right or left based on surface level motives, that can create more harm than good?

This week my guest is Mia Lux, an entrepreneur, comedian, and Co-Founder of Lavette Social Club, which describes itself as a vetted, virtual, social club for self aware singles. What is money actually worth?

Most of us are familiar with the term "money makes the world go round", and it's pretty hard to argue with it. We tend to lean towards the adage that "love is all you need" which can seem contrary to the belief that money is something we need. AND, some amazing things have come from the resource and the energy that money can also represent. Technologies and resources, new innovative ideas coming to life, art, education, and more; when used with intention, money has the potential to make big changes.

My guest this week is no stranger to money and the ability it has to make an impact. Jack Delosa is the founder of Australia's largest training institution for entrepreneurs, The Entourage, which has a community of over 500,000 and continues to grow. Behind anything man made there is an entrepreneur and the resources needed to see that idea come to life, and Jack believes that because of this, entrepreneurs are one of the most important vehicles for change that we have today.

Is violence ever the answer?

It may seem that we are surrounded by violence in this world. Shootings, war, terrorism, violence in movies and games, tv shows and songs; it's impossible to deny that there is violence in this world. It's a complicated topic, because violence itself is sometimes reactionary; meaning that there are two sides to it. The conversation of whether or not violence is necessary or not, can be a triggering one to some but an important one nonetheless. It's also important to recognize that we are currently living in one of the safest times in human history. It may not always seem like it, but I believe we are making progress towards a more peaceful world.

This week, who better to have this conversation with than former member of the US Special Forces, turned personal development coach and founder of The Art Of Masculinity and The Wildman Experience, and fellow podcast host, Johnny Elassaser. His perspective based from experience of what violence really looks like, really takes, and the power it gives as well as the effect that it has, offers a deep insight into the topic.

Can art make a difference?

What a statement; "the pen is mightier than the sword". Its meaning is somewhat straightforward, that the power of communication and human interaction is more influential than any weapon and more powerful than physical force. But, is this still true today?
