What causes muscle soreness?
* New phases or if you haven't worked out in a while.
* Higher amount of reps usually cause soreness.
* Negatives or slower speed reps.
* Pulses, anything that elongates the muscle will cause more muscle soreness.
* Anything new has the potential to make you sore.
Some people stick to one type of workout because they love the soreness, other people avoid those workouts because they hate it! Find a middle ground!
Use the soreness as feedback from your body. If you are constantly sore, you're probably over working that muscle.
If you are never sore, maybe you're not pushing yourself or you need to switch things up. If you feel super sore from the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) take a rest day and don't feel bad. Alternate between workouts and being lightly active. Example, if your legs are really sore after leg day, take a light walk the next day and this can help relieve the muscle soreness.
If muscle soreness carries on after the initial change up of exercise, it may be a sign of over training or under recovery.
