Uber and Rockstar Hack news 

Rockstar Games was hit over the weekend by an attacker who claimed to have accessed its Slack channel to steal data on an upcoming release, and may be the same person who compromised Uber. Two highly impactful cyber attacks on ride-sharing service Uber and video game developer Rockstar Games that unfolded over the space of three days are being tentatively linked after a threat actor going by the handle teapotuberhacker claimed to be behind both incidents.``What comes to mind when we think about security breaches is usually the stealing and selling of personal user or employee data, but this attack is slightly different. When stolen data like this is published on social media, it can be almost impossible to limit the damage and reach of the data.”

Speaking of data, our topic to discuss today is about ‘Data’, the difference between data gathered and data found. Or 3rd party vs Zero party.

Netflix News - Service starting in Nov 2023

Netflix Inc. is considering pricing its new advertising-supported tier at $7 to $9 a month, half as much as its current, most-popular plan, which costs $15.49 monthly with no commercials. 

The goal is to attract subscribers who are willing to watch some ads in exchange for a lower monthly rate. Trying to strike a careful balance between reaching a more cost-conscious consumer while still offering a pleasant experience.

US$65 cost for a thousand views, seeking a minimum US$10m annual ad spend commitment from companies now, and touting the company can get 500,000 subscribers on the ad-supported tier by the end of 2022.

Netflix plans to sell about four minutes of commercials per hour for the ad-supported service. The company will show advertisements before and during some programs, but not after. 

Cons

• Not much targeting is available to curate ads toward viewers in the start. 
• The same spots don’t repeat over and over again.
• It’s also telling advertisers it wants to make smaller deals upfront so it doesn’t overpromise and overwhelm viewers with the spots.

Steve Hoffman (Captain Hoff) is the Chairman & CEO of Founders Space, a global innovation hub for entrepreneurs, corporations, and investors, with over 50 partners in 22 countries.

Hoffman is also a venture investor, founder of three venture-backed and two bootstrapped startups, and author of several award-winning books. These include “Make Elephants Fly” (Hachette), “Surviving a Startup” (HarperCollins), and “The Five Forces” (BenBella).

In addition, Hoffman served on the Board of Governors of the New Media Council, was the founder and Chairman of the Producers Guild Silicon Valley Chapter, and was a founding member of the Academy of Television’s Interactive Media Group.

While in Hollywood, Hoffman worked as a TV development executive at Fries Entertainment, which produced over a hundred TV shows, acquired by MGM. He went on to pioneer interactive television with his venture-funded startup Spiderdance, which produced interactive TV shows with NBC, MTV, Turner, Warner Brothers, History Channel, Game Show Network, and others.

In Silicon Valley, Hoffman founded several startups, in the areas of games and entertainment, and worked as Mobile Studio Head for Infospace, with such hit mobile games as Tetris, Wheel of Fortune, Tomb Raider, Thief, Hitman, Skee-Ball, and X-Files.

Hoffman went on to launch Founders Space, with the mission to educate and accelerate entrepreneurs. Founders Space has become one of the top startup hubs in the world. Hoffman has trained hundreds of startup founders and corporate executives in the art of innovation and provided consulting to many of the world’s largest corporations, including Qualcomm, Huawei, Bosch, Intel, Disney, Warner Brothers, NBC, Gulf Oil, Siemens, and Viacom.

Hoffman earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of California and a master’s degree in film and television from the University of Southern California. He currently resides in California but spends most of his time in the air, visiting startups, investors, and innovators all over the world.

In this episode, we continue down the path of mixed martial arts.
