Show Notes
This week, Fiona and guest host Rob from the Realm of Fire podcast explore the world of Al-Qadim, a 2nd edition DnD campaign setting which draws on 'One Thousand and One Nights' for inspiration.
Set in the land of Zakhara, also known as the Land of Fate, the setting is a thematic blend of the historical Muslim Caliphates, the stories of legend, and a wealth of Hollywood cinematic history.
The basic campaign setting was divided between two game products:
- Al-Qadim: Arabian Adventures - a sourcebook describing character creation rules, equipment, and spells unique to the setting.
- Al-Qadim: Land of Fate - a boxed set describing the land of Zakhara, with separate sourcebooks for the players and the Dungeon Master.
From the 'Al-Qadim: Arabian Adventures' bio:
'Magic carpets, ghoulish vixens, genies rising from the sand in a whirlwind of smoke and fire - such wonders, spun into tales by fabled Scheherazade, enchanted a king for a thousand and one nights.
You are about to discover a realm inspired by the tales of Sinbad, Ali Baba, and other classics from the Arabian Nights. The first in a series of products, this volume features everything DM's and players need to launch the Al-Qadim campaign.'
From the 'Al-Qadim: Land of Fate' bio:
'Ride a magic carpet to a land of a thousand and one adventures! Visit spired cities, lush oases, and mysterious isles set in glittering seas. Meet sultans and sheikhs. See genies and giants. Discover a trove of new magical treasures!
Whether your character starts from the compatible Forgotten Realms game setting or begins the journey elsewhere, this product contains everything a bold adventurer needs to explore the AL-Qadim campaign world.'
Books discussed:
- 'Al-Qadim: Land of Fate' boxset by Jeff Grubb, published by TSR, 1992
- 'Al-Qadim: Arabian Adventures' by Jeff Grubb and Andria Hayday, published by TSR, 1992
