This week, Fiona and Hamilton pick their top 3 monsters to create urban encounters in order to add depth and flavour to any city or township setting!

Monsters discussed:

• Shadows and Shadow Assassin - Undead that resemble dark exaggerations of humanoid shadows (Monster Manual p269/Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage p316).
• Gray Ooze - An ooze which is stone turned to liquid by chaos (Monster Manual p243).
• Stone Golem - Magical constructs cut and chiseled from stone to appear as tall, impressive statues (Monster Manual p170).
• Oni - Demonic ogres with blue or green skin, dark hair, and a pair of short ivory horns protruding from their foreheads (Monster Manual p239).
• Arcanaloth -  Sly, jackal-headed beings with humanoid bodies, but they can employ magic to take any humanoid form (Monster Manual p313).
• Rakshasa - cunning, spell-casting fiends who look like humanoids with the face of a tiger (Monster Manual p257).

• The Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery: Backgrounds that provide access to feats specific to two Dragonlance organisations.

This week, Fiona and guest co-host John (@AutomaticDodd) take a closer look at the ancient history and lore behind Dwarves & Duergar, as written about in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes!

Bold and hardy, dwarves are known as skilled warriors, miners, and workers of stone and metal. Though they stand well under 5 feet tall, dwarves are so broad and compact that they can weigh as much as a human standing nearly two feet taller. Their courage and endurance are also easily a match for any of the larger folk.

The Duergar, on the other hand, see themselves as the true manifestation of dwarven ideals, clever enough not to be taken in by the treacherous deceptions of Moradin and his false promises. Their period of enslavement and the revolt against the mind flayers led by their god, Laduguer, purged the influence of the other dwarven gods from their souls and thus made them into the superior race.
