This week on the Dog Show Drive, we’re taking a road trip.
The team points the van east and takes a trip down to Cross Creek New Brunswick, for the CKC National Dog Show, where there are plenty of dogs, plenty of stories, and probably at least one conversation that begins with “ You’re not going to believe what happened…”
We’ll also explore even more performance sports you and your dog can try, because apparently walking around a show ring was only the beginning.
And in Kennel and Bench, we dig up a story that proves sometimes a dog can really have it’s day. Stray dogs inherit a fortune!

This week on the Dog Show Drive, we take another trip down that wonderfully unpredictable road known as the dog show world. We start with listener email that gave us a good laugh, and, as the best emails usually do, gave us plenty to talk about.

Then we wander beyond the conformation ring to explore the many performance events offered by the CKC. Because sometimes our dogs would like us to know they are capable of doing considerably more than standing still looking handsome.

We also turn back the clock to 1970 and open up an old Kennel and Bench and visit the Purina Hall of Fame , celebrating some remarkable dogs and the stories that earned them a place in Canadian dog history!

This week on the Dog Show Drive, Will-and Y are back behind the wheel, where the road is never quite straight and neither is the conversation.They talk about natural disasters that have been creating havoc for dog shows, then turn their attention to the Boards vote on the proposed changes to the championship points, and what it means to exhibitors.
And then there is one very important question.

Is your dog fast?

Sprinter just might be calling their name. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s one of those wonderful dog sports where just about everyone and every dog , can get in on the action.

This week on Will and Y’s Dog Show Drive, we open up the viewer mailbag, and wouldn’t you know it, somebody has given us something worth pulling over to talk about.

Then we turn to two topics from the Canadian Kennel Club that have been running loose across social media.

First, the proposal to raise the Canadian championship requirement from ten points to fifteen. Is it time for a change? Will it make championships mean more, or simply make the road a little longer?

Then there’s the Owner-Handler series coming in 2027. A new opportunity, a new direction, and because this is the dog show world, no shortage of opinions.

Will and  Y have a few of their own.

So buckle up. There’s plenty to talk about, a few things to disagree about, and hopefully a laugh or two somewhere along the way.

The dog show world can be a wonderful place. We gather around dogs, friendships, competition, and a shred passion that, for many of us, has become something of a family. But families also need to talk about difficult things.
This week, Will and Y take on a subject that isn’t easy to discuss, but perhaps needs discussing more than ever, mental health in the dog show world. The signs we sometimes miss. The struggles people carry quietly. And more importantly, what we can do when we notice someone in our dog show family might not be okay.
Because sometimes the most important thing we can do at a dog show has nothing to do with winning a ribbon.
Sometimes, it’s simply noticing the person standing beside us.

It seems to be happening almost everywhere Is it the cost? The changing world ? Different priorities? Or is there something deeper going on? They don’t pretend to have all the answers, but they’ve got a few stories, a few laughs, and maybe a few ideas worth thinking about. You know, every good road trip has a wrong turn, this week we decided to prove it by attempting our very first live show. There were a few technical tangles along the way, enough to remind us that dogs are often easier to handle than microphones, but somehow that just made the whole thing more interesting. Once we found our footing, we settled into one of those conversations that always get people talking. Should kennel club members compete at their own shows? It’s a topic with plenty of opinions, and Will and Y aren’t shy about exploring both sides.
