The dog show world can be a wonderful place. We gather around dogs, friendships, competition, and a shred passion that, for many of us, has become something of a family. But families also need to talk about difficult things.
This week, Will and Y take on a subject that isn’t easy to discuss, but perhaps needs discussing more than ever, mental health in the dog show world. The signs we sometimes miss. The struggles people carry quietly. And more importantly, what we can do when we notice someone in our dog show family might not be okay.
Because sometimes the most important thing we can do at a dog show has nothing to do with winning a ribbon.
Sometimes, it’s simply noticing the person standing beside us.

Welcome back to Will and Y’s Dog Show Drive You know, there was a time when if you wandered into a small towns fairgrounds on a Saturday morning , you’d find a dog show humming away. Coffee in one hand, lead in the other, hopeful hearts everywhere. These days, though, there seems to be a few more empty grooming spaces than there used to be. So this week, Will and Y pull up a couple of lawn chairs and tackle a question that is on everyone’s mind. Why are dog registrations down ? Not just with the CKC Not just with the AKC. It seems to be happening almost everywhere Is it the cost? The changing world ? Different priorities? Or is there something deeper going on? They don’t pretend to have all the answers, but they’ve got a few stories, a few laughs, and maybe a few ideas worth thinking about. You know, every good road trip has a wrong turn, this week we decided to prove it by attempting our very first live show. There were a few technical tangles along the way, enough to remind us that dogs are often easier to handle than microphones, but somehow that just made the whole thing more interesting. Once we found our footing, we settled into one of those conversations that always get people talking. Should kennel club members compete at their own shows? It’s a topic with plenty of opinions, and Will and Y aren’t shy about exploring both sides.

Along the way, we open the mailbag to hear from listeners, share a few stories, and as always, pay a visit to our favourite feature, Kennel and Bench.
