Carrying over the discussion from last hour on religion and education- because goodness Dom got fired up. Let’s start with a simple question: should children be beat in schools for any reason? What about disabled children? Is it okay if it’s a teacher rather than a student? Some Oklahoma Senators, 16 in fact, seem to think that adults in schools have the God-given right to use corporal punishment on disabled children. One went so far as to say that banning educators from using corporal punishment- aka physically abusing- children was “socialist” ideology. Well mark us down as socialist in that case. Because in our book, hitting children is NEVER ok, full stop. As an aside, the same can’t be said for Wisconsin state Rep. Shae Sortwell, who faced investigation for striking his child so vigorously a relative found five bruises days after the latest beating.
Keep schools as places for children to learn. And especially, keep public schools places where all children, regardless of religion, thrive and don’t fear physical abuse from the adults they should trust. Goodness that seems simple.
We end the day with something good. Today, we hear from our pal and favorite Delano Democrat, Harvey Kaye in a pre-recorded message. Harvey delivered the key toast for the Florida Veterans for Common Sense 288th birthday party for Thomas Paine. As always, Harvey knows how to pair progressive passion with inspired eloquence!

Maggie Daun joins us for a bit of overtime. Did we plan to spend a full hour talking about vouchers and how they drain public school funds? Nope. But y’all had a lot of thoughts and experiences to share, and we’ve got an election coming up that will determine the future of public education in the state. So here we are, with a full hour on vouchers and where public money should go. If you love your public schools- and we hope you do- vote for Dr. Jill Underly on April 1st to remain Superintendent of Public Instruction for Wisconsin.

Guest: Phil NeeMatt Flynn, former chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, joins us for most of the hour. Our democracy faces grave threats as the 47th President of this nation seeks to subvert our Constitution, isolate us from our allies, and disregard the will of We the People. And is it possible- is it AT ALL possible- that our President is a Russian asset? Matt Flynn, known firebrand for democracy and fierce opponent to fascism and Communism says “Yes.” When asked what Trump would do if he were or were not a Russian asset, Matt lays out exactly what Trump would do were he NOT. And it turns out Trump’s not doing any of that. His actions instead align with someone intent on furthering the objectives of Putin, a known dictator, while isolating the United States and We the People from our allies. Scary stuff.
Still, we end the day with something good. Because we need the good. We need the reminders that amidst the chaos and the uncertainty and the fear, we have each other. And there are good moments worth cherishing, sharing, and preserving.

Guests: Matt FlynnDom and Jess pick up the episode with a bit of carryover from Dom’s time with Maggie right before. Because there’s more to say on the growing trend of Trump’s close advisors performing Nazi salutes. Then, we move into Wisconsin news, where the world’s richest person is investing in a new preferred justice for our state’s Supreme Court. However, as usual, Musk’s efforts lack accuracy, truth, and- well- efficiency. In what way? The new ads funded by Musk’s superpac claim that Susan Crawford is wrong for Wisconsin… while showing an image of a woman who is not running for Supreme Court of this great state. Now, of course, Judge Susan M. Crawford is an exceptionally qualified candidate and will make a phenomenal Wisconsin Supreme Court justice.
Then, in both Wisconsin and national news, elected Republican lawmakers face down unhappy constituents in town hall events. Here in Wisconsin, Congressman Fitzgerald and Grothman held town halls where they received choruses of boos and demands for accountability.

Next, sometimes, when a guest doesn't show up, you get a great conversation with the listeners on Matenaer On Air. In lieu of a Social Security advocate coming on the show to talk about the importance of protecting the nations most important "entitlements", we turned the mic to the audience and for three straight segments, we took call after call and listened to folks on or affected by social security, we read their texts and livestream comments. All of them express how vital that check is to their lives, and survival as well as what will happen if the current administration takes a machete to the money they've paid into, for so many years.
Last but not least, John and Gordy in the Morning welcomes back Mike McCabe to talk about the hardships, but also community from farm life, and how it can be a metaphor for what the country needs right now.
