The Dom Salvia Show episodes

  • Civic Media Spotlight for February 22nd & 23rd (Hour 1)

The hour kicks off when the Earl Ingram Show is joined by Professor Bob Harvey for a history lesson, educating the show on the slave trade, religious freedoms and touches the hearts of callers and texters.

Then, Northeastern Wisconsin based Rock/ Rap musician Matt Harper joins Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba. Pete and Matt talk about the Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Half Time Show, the Rock/ Rap Combo, and Matt performs songs in-studio.

After that, there was a little bit of Black History Month history made in Wisconsin this week. For seven years, Republicans have obstructed a clean Black History Month resolution from the Legislative Black Caucus. This year, it passed the Assembly on a unanimous voice vote. UpNorthNews asks the caucus chair and vice chair, Sen. Dora Drake and Rep. Sequanna Taylor, about the small victory, the ongoing fights to take real action on areas where communities of color still face broad disparities, and how the next state budget can help or hurt their cause.

Finally, the Dom Salvia Show likes to end each day with something good. Dom, Jess, and any guests must each share something either happy or simply good that we've experienced recently. Thursday, with Jim Santelle, we got a lot of good. From happy news on our text line to good acts we can do and the power of art, this is a great short segment!

  • We gotta get back to the democratic basics (Hour 2)

Is our President a Russian asset? According to one report, yes- the report alleges he was recruited with the codename Krasnov. That’s horrifying news. And made all the more pertinent as Trump continues to align his interests with Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin. Trump’s planned trip to Moscow in May to celebrate a Russian national holiday with Putin leaves us similarly concerned. Not just us lefties say this- the Wall Street Journal, never known to trend liberal- asserts that Trump is leading us to a new world order with his abandonment of Ukraine and democracy as a governing ideal. And not a more democratic world order. An authoritarian one. So what? What do we do? Well, we gotta get back to our basics. Do We the People in this country bow to kings? Hell no. Do We the People condone repressive authoritarian regimes? Absolutely not. It’s basic. We the People are a democratic republic, with leaders elected by and held responsible to US.

As always, we end the day with something good- challenging as the transition is some days. First, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, delivering a 5-minute speech rebuking Trump’s alignment with Putin and urging us to embrace democracy. Another thing that’s good? This live rendition of Jay Ferguson absolutely JAMMING Thunder Island. And finally, one more good thing: we’ve got a playlist for all the songs we play on our bumpers! Go give it a listen!

  • Wisconsin deserves stability, and much better than *this* (Hour 1)

Beginning the show with Wisconsin news, we look first to the race for Supreme Court. As Judge Susan Crawford continues to accrue support from those who seek equitable justice, Judge Brad Schimel seeks and receives mega support from Elon Musk. The uber billionaire this week invested over $1 million in Brad Schimel. We say invested, because of Musk’s company’s pending lawsuits in the state that may elevate to the Supreme Court. We know which candidate he prefers take that case. Then, moving on to the matters that impact real Wisconsinites. Wisconsin Farmers Union organized a meeting with lawmakers to discuss concerns among their members and the agrarian communities at large over the chaos and lack of stability infused into an already turbulent practice by Trump’s tariffs and economic disruptions. The elected Republican lawmakers representing the region declined to attend or send representatives.

For the remainder of the hour, we turn to the economy and concerns over Trump’s ties to Russia. This week, the stock market trended significantly downwards. In a worrying sign, a frequent conservative troll thinks this is GREAT news. Sheesh, we don’t!

Do you love our bumpers and want to listen to the full songs? Check out our playlist!

  • A hostile takeover, but we'll resist (Hour 2)

Jim Santelle, host of the weekend show Amicus: A Law Review, joins us for the day. As one of Trump’s final Cabinet-level nominees needing Senate approval squeaks past in Kash Patel, we stare down a full hostile takeover of our government. Patel enters the position of FBI Director with a fully articulated list of perceived political enemies for whom he will search for a crime. Not to mention Patel’s other baggage that leaves us concerned for his ability to serve We the People faithfully. Meanwhile, the 47th President issued an Executive Order seeking to consolidate power of formerly independent agencies under his partisan flag. They’ve shown they’re hostile. Trump is blatant with his intent to take over each and every crumb of power. How can this be anything other than a hostile takeover? We pray (well Jess does, Dom doesn’t do the whole “praying” thing) and wish for remaining federal workers who believe in democracy to hold firm.

Is there a glimmer of hope though? Well, of course at the end of the show we each share something good. Today Jim shares a way to support federal workers who’ve been fired in these latest moves of wanton cruelty and hostility. With a beer!

  • Contempt for Constitution, Citizens, and Courts (Hour 1)

Jim Santelle, host of the weekend show Amicus: A Law Review, joins us for the day. The United States Constitution lays out three branches of government: executive, legislative, and judicial. Each branch bears the right and responsibility to check the others to ensure alignment with the Constitution. Yet now President Trump defies this sacred document as he defies the judicial branch and its authority to reign in his illegal acts. This contempt for the rule of law, the contempt for Constitution, and contempt for us all continues to shock us. And the real results of it terrify us as elected officials in Congress fear- legitimately- voting their conscience rather than Trump’s will. Right now, federal judges are the final bulwark preventing some of Trump’s illegal, cruel, and anti-American executive orders from taking action. Yet they face endless challenges, including now impeachment articles, introduced by Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden. Stay strong, judges. Hold the line.

  • D'ya smell that? It's the foul stench of authoritarianism (Hour 2)

Matt Rothschild joins us as cohost. There’s something in the air, do you smell it? It’s thick, ugly, and burnt. Smells like the authoritarianism we fought Britain against for our independence. It smells like the fascism we fought to eradicate in Europe last century. And it smells like crap. We don’t do that “king” bs here. Yet President Trump asserts his desire to be a king daily, including today by posting “Long live the king” in reference to himself. In this hour we catalogue SOME of Trump’s latest affronts to our nation’s method of governance. We prophesy that Trump will go down in history as a traitor to everything this country holds dear. Of course, we already mark him as such. For the CONSTANT barrage of lies he spews to the public- most recently concerning Ukraine and who started that war. And for every torch he’s taken to our constitution, our country’s norms, and the foundations that serve We The People. In what’s nearly a footnote to the day, it turns out DOGE isn’t delivering on any of their promises as they continue to lie to us each day. Wow, how shocking.

We end the day, of course, with something good. And because we have Matt joining us as cohost, we have poetry. Listen to this 5-minute read of June Jordan’s own “Poem About My Rights”. Powerful, moving, and deeply relevant 50 years later.

  • A Path Forward for Wisconsin (Hour 1)

Matt Rothschild joins us as cohost.

In this hour, it’s all about Wisconsin and our path forward! Yesterday, citizens across the state cast their ballots in the spring primary. All wards voted in the State Superintendent of Public Instruction primary, and many wards also voted in school board primaries and for local referenda. After the tally, incumbent Superintendent of Public Instruction Jill Underly and pro-voucher challenger Brittney Kinser advance to the general election. Also yesterday, Governor Tony Evers delivered the biennial 2025-2026 budget address to a joint session of the state Legislature. In it, Evers outlined his priorities for funding essentials in this state. At the top of his list: PFAs remediation, tax relief for those who genuinely need it, school funding, and expanded access to health care. Gee, how radical!
