  • Weekly Best of Dom Salvia Show for Feb 15

Happy weekend, all! Let’s review our best segments from this past week, eh?

First, from Tuesday’s first hour, a bit of overtime with Maggie Daun. Do we want President Trump to be successful? Welllll… that really really depends on how you define “successful.” Do we want our fellow Americans and this country to flourish? Of course. Do we want mass chaos and cruel policies? Absolutely the hell not.

Next, from Thursday’s second hour: lawmakers in states that voted for Trump now find themselves facing down massive funding cuts that will hurt their constituents. Isn’t it cute how they thought they were only going to ‘own the libs’ and not feel an ounce of the pain they so self-righteously crowed would befall Democrats? No, of course it isn’t. No American’s pain is good. And. And you get what you voted for.

Then, how is this presidential administration’s first 100 days shaping up compared to FDR’s? We ask and discuss with our favorite Delano Democrat, Harvey Kaye, from our second hour on Monday.

Finally, let’s wrap it up with something good! Als from Thursday’s second hour, a few moments of peace.

  • Revisiting Josh Kaul, Bill Press, and Bishop Budde (Hour 1)

This episode is a curated Best Of, pulled from January 22nd and 23rd. First, from January 23rd’s first hour, our talk with Wisconsin’s Attorney General Josh Kaul on the lawsuit our state joined opposing President Trump’s unlawful attempt to end birthright citizenship. Then, from that day’s second hour, checking in with our friend Bill Press on how to navigate the firehose of BS from the chaos administration.

The second half hour comes from our second hour on January 22nd, with Matt Rothschild as cohost. We turn to Bishop Mariann Budde and the moving sermon she delivered to the Interfaith Inaugural Service on January 21st. And of course, we ended that day with something good.

  • Cuts for THEE and not for WE say Red State Lawmakers (Hour 2)

In a shocking turn of events, the drastic cuts in federal funding will impact states that voted for Trump! Please, if it wasn’t obvious, note the sarcasm. OF COURSE the draconian, cruel, and shortsighted slashes suggested by shadow-president Musk will hurt Red states. When red states receive a disproportionate amount of federal aid compared to what they contribute, OF COURSE cuts will hurt them first and worst. But now their lawmakers are sooo concerned that what they voted for will come to pass.

  • Money in politics, it stinks! (Hour 1)

If there’s ONE thing we can agree on regardless of political ideology, it’s often that money and politics ought to stay away from one another. Of course, since the Citizens United case, money has BEEN politics. And We the People paid the price.

But money can’t buy every election. Just ask Eric Hovde, who failed to garner enough votes to win a US Senate position from Wisconsin voters. He re-emerged, minus the mustache, to bemoan once more his loss to Senator Tammy Baldwin. No, he didn’t come out to congratulate Senator Baldwin on her win nor on the excellent work she’s done in the Senate since. He turned on his camera from state unknown (almost certainly California) to reiterate election denialist conspiracy theories. BORING! Meanwhile, Senator Baldwin continues to serve Wisconsin and the United States well and true. She pressed Linda McMahon, nominee to be Secretary of Education, on dark allegations.

  • Here's all the money, but where's the heart and the voice? (Hour 2)

Matt Rothschild joins us as cohost for the day. Turning away from national politics for a bit, we look at the race for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court. This election is shaping up to be exorbitantly expensive, with millions and millions already raised by the two candidates. In 2015, Scott Walker signed a bill into law rewriting Wisconsin’s election finance laws. Now, money is speech in Wisconsin, and there is no limit on donations to state parties, who can then disperse the funds as they see fit. It’s law, but it’s not right. And we ask where the speech is for those of us without tens of thousands to give to our favored candidates. Where is the voice for the working people? Where are our elected leaders to stand up to the billionaires stripping our government for parts and footing us with the bill?
