Matt Rothschild joins us as cohost for the day. Every day of President Trump’s second term is apparently ‘bring your billionaire to work’ day. With Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, answering questions from press in the Oval, we’re wondering who the real president is. And Musk is already openly admitting to misleading the public- we call that ‘lying’ round here- on rationales for cutting life saving aid. No, there was not $50,000,000 in condoms allocated out of USAID’s funding. And despite Musk claiming that his team will get things wrong and make it right, we’re still waiting on an apology and clarification. And we’ll keep on waiting. Because it’s just not going to happen. Ok, so Musk’s lying to us. But is Trump at least delivering on his promise to lower inflation ON DAY ONE? Nope. Not even in the first few weeks.

The last time Trump imposed tariffs and ignited a stupid, meaningless trade war, he paid nearly $30 BILLION to farmers who’d lost income– bigly– in China’s retaliation. Hell of a job, Negotiator… Now, with a 25% tariff on all imported aluminum and steel, we wonder how much he’ll have to pay off to manufacturers and beer canners, to name two impacted parties. We talk with our audience about the devastating impact Trump’s tariffs will have on Wisconsin. His billionaire buddies won’t feel a twinge of pain. We The People will. And in all likelihood, Trump will have to go bail out another industry with tax payer dollars.

Maggie Daun joins us for a bit of overtime. We begin by picking up an audience member’s question from yesterday: do we want President Trump to succeed? Well, that depends on how you define “success”. Do we want Trump to be successful in subverting our constitution. No, we don’t. Do we want Trump to succeed in enacting hateful policies the bring social justice back decades? Hell no. Do we want Trump to be successful by reducing taxes for his ultra rich pals while increasing costs for the rest of us? Absolutely not. So what can we do to oppose Trump? As federal judges currently bear the brunt of the defense, we look to Congress for support. That said, Maggie urges Democrats in Congress not to look at a shutdown as a political tool. Rather, assemble a cohesive policy set focused on protecting middle class Americans and STICK TO IT.
For the rest of the hour, we turn to tariffs. Yesterday, Trump announced an accross-the-board 25% tariff on all imported aluminum and steel. This WILL hurt Wisconsinites, with impacts on everything from infrastructure to beer. So Trump voters, is this whatcha voted for?

As Trump pushes hard on what the chief executive of our country can legally do, we ask: are we watching a constitutional crisis unfold? Federal judge after federal judge continues to block unconstitutional executive actions for this administration. Breaking in this hour, Federal District Court Judge Angel Kelley issued a temporary restraining order on Trump’s NIH gouging in the 22 states that sued to protect medical research and services. But how much can federal judges do to oppose a president who seemingly entered this administration seeking not to remake the office, but to destroy the very foundation of American democracy?

Guests: Harvey KayeThe race for Wisconsin Supreme Court heats up between Judge Susan Crawford and Judge Brad Schimel. Both candidates appeared yesterday on WISN’s UPFRONT for interviews. Each candidate discussed their views on recusal, money in the race, and hinted towards their views on abortion.
In other Wisconsin news, President Trump’s financial decapitation of the National Institute of Health (NIH) will devastate UW’s research capabilities. In response, Wisconsin joins with 21 other states to bring a lawsuit. Because Trump lacks the authority to revoke funds already appropriated. In fact, these funding slashes are fully unconstitutional, violating the allocation of the purse to Congress, NOT the executive branch.
