The Dom Salvia Show episodes

  • Civic Media Spotlight for January 4th & 5th (Hour 2)

To begin the second hour this weekend, John and Gordy, of WMDX's morning program the John and Gordy Show, talk with Jim Santelle about being an intern at the White House in the summer of 1980 during the Carter administration, and how his presidency is unjustly overlooked.

Then, the Earl Ingram Show is joined by Alan Borsuk, Senior Fellow in Public Policy at Marquette Law School, to discuss the issues facing Milwaukee Public Schools. Earl and Alan talk about the politics of how the state funds education, how mismanagement led to the current problems, and the path ahead for the district.

After that on the Dom Salvia Show, Dom and cohost of the day Earl Ingram discuss the desperate need for elder leaders to pass the torch. With the average age of a US Senator being 68 years and a distinct lack of youth voices in politics, it's no wonder young people didn't turn up to vote. We need elected officials who represent AND resemble their constituents.

We close out the weekend with a segment from WGBW and WISS's morning program, Maino and the Mayor. The guys talk about this day in 1967 when the famed Ice Bowl took place in Green Bay. The Packers beat the Cowboys, and the goalpost came down. We visited this great memory with several guests, including former reporter Tony Walter. He shares many great stories based on that day in his book "Ice Bowl: The Game That Will Never Die."

  • Civic Media Spotlight for January 4th & 5th (Hour 1)

Kicking off this weekend's Civic Media Spotlight, Jane, Greg and Calvin talk about whether they make New Year's Resolutions and what effect they have on us if we don't follow through. We take calls and read texts from the listeners on this and give advice on how to reach goals for yourself.

Then, Green Bay based comedian John Egan joins Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba. John talks about the stand-up scene in Green Bay and De Pere. Pete and John share stories from around the state in comedy, and John talks about new dates coming up!

Following that on the Todd Allbaugh Show, Todd updates listeners on the tragic attack in New Orleans in the early hours of New Year's Day. His focus in this segment is on the Fox News coverage. They made up lies about the alleged perpetrator before anybody really had any information, stating that he was an illegal immigrant and this is all Joe Biden's fault. In reality, he was a citizen of Texas and an Afghanistan veteran. Todd emphasizes the importance of truth, and how Fox News has continually failed to reach that goal.

Wrapping up the first hour, on The Maggie Daun Show guest hosted by Dan Shafer, Dan is joined by BLOC’s Angela Lang and Law Forward’s  Jeff Mandell to discuss the complexities of ACT 10 and its repeal. Enacted in Wisconsin in 2011, ACT 10 severely limited public sector unions' collective bargaining rights, sparking protests and debates over workers' rights.

  • Due Process... I guess? (Hour 2)

Jim Santelle joins us as cohost on this first Friday of the New Year. Finally, finally, we know the day when Donald Trump will face sentencing for his election interference related to fraudulent financial documents in the state of New York. Mark your calendars for one week from today, January 10th, 10 days before Trump’s second inauguration. Unfortunately, we already know the likely sentence: unconditional discharge. In other words: no payments, no prison time, no probation- no penance. The only bright spot here is that after the sentencing, Donald Trump will finally hold the formal title of convicted felon under New York law.

So… now what? Now what do we do to keep involved and do something to change the course of our path? How do we move forward and get off our asses? In a world where every empire so far has fallen eventually due to lack of engagement: refuse to fall into apathy.

  • Bare minimum is the new mandate? (Hour 1)

Jim Santelle joins us as cohost for the day to address a host of legal and political matters. First, the 119th Congress will have a Speaker, as Mike Johnson (R-LA) meets the minimum threshold to retain the position. Technically, Johnson won the vote on the first ballot. Because after three Republican Reps voted no, their colleagues kept the vote open while they managed to cajole the dissidents into switching. It’s as unanimous and reflective of a mandate as Trump’s popular vote win…

Then, Jim and Dom debate the merits and very obvious demerits of Merrick Garland’s tenure as Attorney General.

  • Better ways ahead- if we can pass the torches in time (Hour 2)

Earl Ingram joins us to cohost this first show of the New Year. What with the new year and all, the US House of Representatives will vote on new rules to guide their new session and a new Speaker to lead the chamber tomorrow. Tune in tomorrow to see how that all goes…

In news both local and national, Ben Wikler’s candidacy for Chair of the Democratic National Committee advances. Chuck Schumer, current Senate Majority leader endorsed Wikler’s bid in a show of supporting a new wave of fresh leadership for the party. We are past due for a changing of the hands that lead this country. Earlier in the month, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came up short in her bid for the ranking spot on the House Oversight Committee. She lost against 74-year-old Rep. Gerry Connolly, who stated that he was due for the position.

  • This is all US, man (Hour 1)

We’re bringing in the New Year with Earl Ingram as cohost. 2025 dawns with too many people firing off guns and a terror attack in New Orleans. Not to let any good tragedy go to waste, Trump and his MAGA cult jumped on the story before clear details emerged to paint the attacker in New Orleans as an illegal immigrant. The driver, who rammed a rented truck into a crowd celebrating the New Year, was a native born United States citizen. In an apparently unrelated event, a man rented a Cybertruck in Las Vegas, loaded it with explosives, and killed himself with a gunshot to explode the vehicle. Another native-born US Citizen. In addition, both men served in the United States Army, the Las Vegas driver was active duty.

Dom and Earl discuss the outrage that we need to address Trump and his cronies lies about these two events. We should be using our time to address the pressing needs of those who serve our country when they return home. So we do just that. Because these events? They’re a reflection of US.

  • New Year's Reflection: Best of Harvey Kaye (Hour 2)

Happy New Year of 2025! What would our Mondays be without chats with our favorite Delano Democrat Harvey Kaye, Professor Emeritus of Democracy and Justice Studies at UWGB? Certainly they would not be half so full of historical wit and wisdom! Join us as we revisit an hour’s worth of our favorite talks with Harvey in 2024, full hours linked. First, we’ll learn about the FDR’s proposed Economic Bill of Rights. Then, how common is Common Sense? We’ll move on from there and discuss getting radical. Finish the hour with a celebration of Wisconsin’s proud record supporting labor rights, now somewhat restored with the overturn of Act 10.
