In this episode I talk about stress and anxiety. When you are in a stressful job, like many people these days, it can come home with you and it means you aren't giving yourself a chance to rest. Or perhaps, as I talk about personally, anxiety kicks in about going back to work and you imagine the worst. Yoga is my tool to acknowledge my thoughts and feelings but also to give my mind a little sanctuary of quiet in a noisy, stressful world. Maybe it's something you can try too.
Sleep!
It's not just about the quantity but also the quality. There are around 3.8 million shift workers in the UK. How many of us are sleep deprived and what impact does that have on our performance? In this episode I talk a bit about sleep after a nightshift and how I have tried to change my habit of fitting a full day's activity in before a full shift. I also talk about yoga and in particular yin yoga and how I think it could help you to switch off after a nightshift and get a better sleep.
When I tell people I am a police officer and a yoga teacher, there's usually the same reaction 'Oh, that's different'. Because when you say it out loud yes it does seem like the ultimate contradiction. I think it's a perfect complement!
In this episode find out little bit about my story - my life as a police officer, how I found yoga and the beginning of the Shiftworker Yogi.
