  • Episode 80 - A Weird Egg to Crack [2021 FINALE]

It's the New Year, and it's our last episode of 2021. Or, maybe it's our first episode of 2022? Either way, please enjoy this week's installment of the Epoch. There really isn't too much news, so Joe decides to talk about baseball, and later, runs down the gains achieved by the labor movement. Throughout the bulk of the episode, Jesse brings us both the positive and negative highlights of the year. We then discuss Boston DSA's recent resolutions to dissent from the NPC's decision on Jamaal Bowman. To round out the episode, Chava brings us personal news, and the very final YCMTSU of 2021. We know it's the 1st, but recorded this on Tuesday, give us a break. Happy New Year and thanks for listening!

  • Episode 78 - Ghost in the Infancy Machine

This week on the Epoch we celebrate the triumph of unions, and mourn the tragedy of capitalism's greed. As Starbucks in Buffalo, and now Boston, began to unionize, Amazon forced employees to work during a tornado leading to factory collapse and the death of several workers in Kentucky. Locally, As Wu's pilot programs began to show promise, the MBTA cut's service, almost in an effort to sabotage the pilot. Charlie Baker issues free COVID tests for Mass residents, but there is no vaccine mandate in the city of Boston. It's a land of contradictions, America. Also, Scott discusses the controversary around Licorice Pizza and reminds us that depiction is not endorsement. Finally, in YCMTSU, Chava explores the world of competitive Camel beauty contests, and the corruption therein. Thank you for listening. Please enjoy.

About The Epoch of Incredulity

From the publisher's feed

Here in the Boston Commune, we interpret the tumultuous churn of modernity through a Marxist lens. Episodes alternate between analyses of current events -- from the hyperlocal to the international -- and narrations of theoretical texts by communists and anti-imperialists the world over. This project was birthed in a mental health working group during the pandemic and continues in true DIY fashion, without any advertisements or monetization (save for a few generous patrons). Hard to believe, we know; for it is, after all, the Epoch of Incredulity.
