The Epoch of Incredulity episodes

  • Episode 77 - A Möbius Strip of Dogshit

After a string of longer episodes, here's a short Epoch you can have, as a treat. This week we discuss the AWS outage, Amazon and Starbucks unionization efforts -- all workers deserve a union -- the Omicron variant, the debt ceiling, and the Hubble telescope. In YCMTSU, Chava illuminates the lengths some people will go to to not get vaccinated. Plus, a lot of bad accents and some lite Lord of the Rings talk. Thank you for listening. Please share and enjoy.

  • Episode 76 - The Pinnacle of Human Degeneracy

This week on The Epoch of Incredulity, Comrade Jesse runs down some vital socialist victories in the global south, specifically Venezuela, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Before that, in news, we discuss the Ghislaine Maxwell trial, CNN's suspension of Chris Cuomo, the possible bankruptcy of SpaceX, and DSA's relationship to Jamal Bowman. To round things out, Chava ponders Arbys' vodka. "That is an Epoch." Thank you for listening, enjoy, and remember to share.

  • Episode 75 - Choose Your Own Nostril!

We have a new intro, a full deck of comrades, and bevy of topics this week on the Epoch. We open with a loose discussion of Žižek, academic Marxists, Q-Anon, JFK, and conspiracy theories. We then start off the news with the unfortunate reality of American White Supremacy and the Rittenhouse verdict. We follow that up with some good news concerning the Teamsters, bad news concerning Biden's emerging oil crisis, and the future of speculative finance. Next, we moved into a major discussion of the opioid epidemic'; CVS, Walmart, and Walgreens' capability and responsibility in fueling the crisis, we share some personal experiences, and Jesse reads his notes from Boston DSA's recent Narcan Training organized by the Mental Health Working Group. Lastly, Chava brings us a segment that begs the question: should animals be allowed to inherit wealth? Please enjoy and remember to share. Thank you for listening.

  • Episode 74 - Seven Pounds of Piss

As most of our favorite comrades were either sick or busy this week, Jesse, Scott, and later Chava, carry the weight. In national news, Scott fumbles the story but recovers with insight. Jesse runs down a slew local news. As always, Chava brings us a story about special cats. Thank you for listening.

It's a special week for The Epoch, as there will be two brand new full episodes for your feeds! First up is your regular Epoch for the week. This might just be the shortest mainfeed episode ever, but we still give you some of the gloomiest news ever, Jesse clarifies some vital aspects from last week's theory primer, and Chava reminds us that Bernie is sexy. We have a full deck, plus a very brief return of Dave in a cave. The second half of this episode, our interview with Evan, will be coming very soon. Thank you for listening!

About The Epoch of Incredulity

From the publisher's feed

Here in the Boston Commune, we interpret the tumultuous churn of modernity through a Marxist lens. Episodes alternate between analyses of current events -- from the hyperlocal to the international -- and narrations of theoretical texts by communists and anti-imperialists the world over. This project was birthed in a mental health working group during the pandemic and continues in true DIY fashion, without any advertisements or monetization (save for a few generous patrons). Hard to believe, we know; for it is, after all, the Epoch of Incredulity.
