  • Episode 30 - Perpetually Wet
Editor's note: Scott's review of City Hall (2020) was a little choppy on the recording, and some had to be put cut, for the full review, visit: https://letterboxd.com/deathmullet/film/city-hall-2020/
After his two week absence, Joe returns and we go wild on this Epoch. In the news, we open with our usual displeasure with Charlie Baker, discuss the victory of the Roe act, the still underwhelming and grossly inefficient nature of the stimulus, and the revelation that the MBTA rejected federal funding in favor of service cuts and austerity. We send our love to Jesse's cats, and LE delivers what is one of the most memorable segments yet. Scott reviews Frederick Wiseman's City Hall, and discusses his many issues with the film. And speaking of Boston City Hall, we end things we a fun exploration into former Mayor Menino's many malapropism.

  • Episode 29 - Swath[e]s: The Future Joe Brother
We're Joeless for the second week, but that won't slow the Epoch. This week we discuss the insult of the $600 stimulus, and explore the bill's many "gimmes." Jesse brings us updates on the Boston City Council, Office of Police Accountability and Transparency, local Police corruption, and the scourge of rampant lead pipes throughout the city of Boston. In Rabid Radlibs, we reassert working class peoples' right to bear arms. YCMTSU turns into a debate over the anatomy of memes. We return to the topic of time scarcity under capitalism. Scott stalls a lot. The word of this week's episode is Swath, how do you pronounce it?

  • Episode 28 - "Doing Communism and Eating Ass"
Where to even begin with this one. On this week's Epoch, Jesse, LE, and Scott are flying Joe-less. We open with Mayor Pete's newly appointed role as transportation secretary, Scott unloads on the so-called "Jimmy Dore Plan," and the liberal tendency to seek retribution in the place of justice. Jesse examines conspiracy theories throughout the political spectrum, and later, the fracturing of the left by the internet. LE ponders the mysterious monoliths and other erections of unknown origin. We briefly weigh the differences between Social Democracy and Communism, and we end things with some highlights from NextDoor. There is a lot of movie discussion throughout the episode, it's sorta the glue. Please, enjoy!

About The Epoch of Incredulity

From the publisher's feed

Here in the Boston Commune, we interpret the tumultuous churn of modernity through a Marxist lens. Episodes alternate between analyses of current events -- from the hyperlocal to the international -- and narrations of theoretical texts by communists and anti-imperialists the world over. This project was birthed in a mental health working group during the pandemic and continues in true DIY fashion, without any advertisements or monetization (save for a few generous patrons). Hard to believe, we know; for it is, after all, the Epoch of Incredulity.
