The Fake Ass Book Club

In this gripping episode, the hosts delve into Netflix's "Adolescence", a harrowing four-part British crime drama that has captivated audiences worldwide. The series centers on 13-year-old Jamie Miller, whose arrest for the brutal murder of his classmate, Katie Leonard, shatters his seemingly ordinary family. As the investigation unfolds, the narrative explores Jamie's descent into online radicalization, exposing the dangerous influence of incel culture and toxic masculinity on vulnerable youth. Through intense performances and a unique one-shot filming technique, Adolescence offers a chilling commentary on the perils of digital indoctrination and the societal factors that can lead to unimaginable acts. The hosts examine the series' unflinching portrayal of modern adolescence and the urgent conversations it sparks about online habits, parental awareness, and the fragility of young minds. Tune in and enjoy, Cheers! 🥂

In this episode, the ladies dive into Confessions of a Video Vixen and Vindicated by Karrine Steffans, exploring the highs, lows, and lessons (or lack thereof) from her journey. They examine her troubled childhood, her rise to fame in the hip-hop industry, and the factors that led to her infamous reputation as “Superhead.” While Confessions exposed the toxic power dynamics of the industry, Vindicated raises a bigger question for our hosts—has Steffans truly grown, or is she still caught in the same cycles? Our hosts analyze her past and present relationships, including her recent entanglement with celebrity chef Kwame Onwuachi and ask: Is she the empowered feminist she claims to be, or is she still repeating the same toxic cycles? Tune in for a no-holds-barred discussion on fame, agency, and what it really means to break free from the past. Cheers!🥂

Sometimes life throws a curveball, and this weekend was no exception—one of our hosts (Kat) was in a car accident and ended up with a slight concussion (don’t worry, she's okay!). Since recording the usual episode wasn’t in the cards, the ladies did what they do best—kept it F.A.B. and pushed through. This week, they’re sharing an episode normally reserved for Patreon subscribers—meaning it’s wayyy more candid, unsensored, and even features an unexpected guest drop-in! It’s not as structured, but it’s still our hosts being their opinionated, funny, and unfiltered selves. Hope you all enjoy the conversation! Cheers!🥂

As no strangers to having one of them days, they dive into the film’s exploration of resilience, friendship, and the moments that test us. From movie musings to ridiculous cocktails and plenty of laughs, this milestone episode is equal parts celebration, silliness, and soul. Cheers to 200 episodes and many more to come! Cheers!! 🥂

Moni: To   The book title “from the ashes new beginnings," made me think of the wildfires in Los Angeles. 29 people died, Over 1,000 homes have been destroyed, and neighborhoods like Malibu and Pacific Palisades have been hit hard. In this episode, Moni and Kat review Zora Neale Hurston’s The Life of Herod the Great, a never-before-published novel that challenges the traditional view of King Herod. Hurston portrays him not as the villain of the New Testament but as a visionary leader who enriched Jewish culture and navigated the political chaos of the first century BCE. With rich historical detail and a fresh perspective, the book offers a compelling look at one of history’s most misunderstood (and apparently hot) figures. But before they get into the book discussion, there’s some Super Bowl business to address! The hosts recap the game, with Moni taking an L after making a bet on the Kansas City Chiefs. They also break down Kendrick Lamar’s epic halftime show, discussing its cultural impact and why it was one of the best performances in recent years. This episode has it all, even corrections from last week's episode!  Tune in for the laughs, the lessons, and the literary gems. Cheers! 🥂
