Did the events of the cross and resurrection really change anything?  After telling the resurrection story, Sarah explores the power of God for salvation over death and hell and discusses how we can walk in the power of the resurrection and be the fragrance of Christ wherever we go.

In reflecting on Palm Sunday and Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, we reviewed three events: 1. Jesus weeping over Jerusalem 2. Jesus cleansing the temple and 3. Jesus cursing the fig tree. We discussed how, in these events, Jesus navigated sorrow, anger, and hunger. Each of these emotions and feelings played out in different ways as Jesus lived and taught throughout the week leading up to his death and resurrection. Jesus provides an example for us today in how we live our lives in the in-between. Living between triumph and resurrection, we walk through sorrow, anger, and hunger.

Religion leads us to constantly look at ourselves and others in light of our lostness. But Jesus longs for us to look to him, to know him, and to care about what he cares about instead of being caught up in religious worship and practice. Sarah reminds us of Jesus’s words: “Go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices’” (Matthew 9).

Jesus navigated complex relationships with many different types of people—fisherman, political zealots, Roman officials, influencers, the sick, the tormented, women, men and families, to name just a few. How did he do it? In this message from John 4, Sarah looks at one example in Jesus’s interaction with a Samaritan woman.

Do you find it hard to “stay put, remain continuously, settle in for a long time?” These are a few definitions for abiding, and Jesus tells us to abide in him. In this message, guest speaker, Dr. Peter Asiamah (pastor at Kingdom Glory Church and director of The Vine Institute), spoke from John 15 and reminded us that when we abide in Christ, we are nourished, conformed to his image, empowered, and we can produce good fruit.

Are you hungry or thirsty? What could satisfy your soul? So often we come to Jesus looking for signs and wonders, when he wants us coming to him directly for our nourishment and well-being. This isn’t easy—we find ourselves torn between belief and unbelief. But belief in Jesus—feeding on Jesus—is the work he desires from us (John 6).

We have an amazing Good Shepherd in Jesus. Sometimes we cry out for a lion, but Jesus defeated our enemy and won our hearts by laying down his life as a lamb. Listen and learn more about the Lamb/Shepherd who knows us by name, cares for us, leads us to springs of living water, wipes away our tears, and invites us all into his flock. (John 10).
