This episode of The Five Count featured an exclusive interview with actor/comedian Robert Townsend. Robert is best known for directing and starring in films like Hollywood Shuffle, The Five Heartbeats, and The Meteor Man. He also directed the film Eddie Murphy Raw and starred in the TV show The Parent ‘Hood. During the show he discussed his thoughts on Hollywood’s portrayal of black actors, his film The Meteor Man paving the way for the success of films like Black Panther, and his new documentary Making The Five Heartbeats. During the rest of the show we discussed the pros and cons of going to high school reunions, celebrated the 20-year anniversary of Godsmack’s debut album, and gave away tickets to see Boy George & The B-52’s at the Minnesota State Fair. This edition of The Five Count featured exclusive interviews with three TV favorites. First we were joined by filmmaker Anthony C. Ferrante. Anthony is best known as the creator and director of the Sharknado film series. He’s also directed films like Headless Horseman, Boo, and Hansel & Gretel. During the show he discussed the success of the Sharknado films, the various actors who have made guest appearances over the series, and the sixth Sharnado film The Last Sharknado: It’s Abut Time! It premiers Aug. 19th on the Syfy channel!

Next we were joined by Five Count alumni Mike Nelson & Kevin Murphy. Mike and Kevin are best known as the men behind both Mystery Science Theater 3000 and RiffTrax. Mike was the head-writer for MST3K and the on-screen host. Kevin was also a writer for MST3K and the voice of the “Tom Servo” robot. During the show they discussed their favorite films they’ve “riffed” over the years, how they feel when they receive backlash from fans over making fun of films, and their upcoming presentation of the film Krull. During the rest of the show we paid tribute to Aretha Franklin, Ton explained why his moving to New Ulm, Minn. would overwhelm the city’s infrastructure, and decided whose likeness we would like to airbrush on our tights. We also drank an entire case of Mike’s Half-Staff Lemonade!

The Five Count recently had a chance to speak with Kerry Alexander & Chris Hoge of the band Bad Bad Hats. Hailing from Minneapolis, Bad Bad Hats have been making music since 2012. Their new album Lightning Round is out now! See them live Aug. 18 at First Avenue in Minneapolis!

This installment of The Five Count featured an exclusive interview with Tom Bailey. Tom is best known as the frontman for the Thompson Twins. Known for hits like In the Name of Love, Lies, Doctor! Doctor!, and Hold Me Now, the Thompson Twins have sold millions of albums dating back to the late ‘70s. During the show he discussed playing with the Thompson Twins at the height of their success, his decision to start writing new pop music after taking a lengthy hiatus, and his new album Science Fiction. See Tom Bailey live on Sept. 3 at the Minnesota State Fair!

During the rest of the show Ton announced his possible candidacy for city council, we discussed who we would invite to The Five Count Christmas Variety Show, and we celebrated Ton’s birthday! He doesn’t sound a day over 60!

This edition of The Five Count featured an exclusive interview with Janet Gardner. Janet is best known as the singer and guitarist for the band Vixen. Known for songs like Love Made Me, Cryin’, and Edge of a Broken Heart, Vixen has been making albums since 1988. During the show she discussed the early days of Vixen, her memories of appearing in the film Hardbodies, and Vixen’s new album Live Fire. It’s available now on Rat Pak Records!

During the rest of the show we discussed our favorite Danny DeVito acting roles, shared our favorite Mankato club memories, paid tribute to pro wrestler Nikolai Volkoff, and helped a man from Montgomery pick up women by impressing them with his canning skills. His specialty was stewed tomatoes!

This edition of The Five Count was a celebration of the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest films ever made, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band! During the show we explained why The Bee Gees are better than The Beatles, discussed why unattractive people can't be music stars nowadays, tried to figure out why everyone thinks Sgt. Pepper's is one of the worst films of all-time, and Ton mourned the loss of Minnesota Vikings Training Camp in Mankato. Luckily, he's slowly overcoming that grief with the help of Peter Frampton!

This episode of The Five Count featured an exclusive interview with “Sweet” Charles Sherrell. “Sweet” Charles is best known as the former bandleader and bassist for James Brown & The J.B.’s. Performing on classics like Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud, Mother Popcorn, and Give It Up or Turnit a Loose, he also appeared with James Brown in the film Rocky IV.
