What's up family and welcome to Part Two of our conversation with Facilitator Raul Rivera, Building Emotional Intelligence. In part one of the interview, Rivera chronicles his journey from childhood to becoming a student facilitator. In the first part of the episode Rivera briefly touches on his upbringing which consisted in large part in Rivera residing in foster homes and group homes up and throughout college. In Part one however, Rivera focuses more on the specifics of the job and his strategies, while he allows the listeners a much more personal look into his life in Part Two.
In Part Two, Rivera dives deep into his experiences as a young man which were marred by his father abandoning him, being kicked out of 6 different foster homes, and attending high school while homeless. Rivera then explains how he used these experiences to help assist him in his job and helps him to develop a level of Emotional Intelligence in order to deal with a wide variety of emotions that young people exhibit. He explains how the trauma of being abandoned by his father pushed him to become a great father to his own children and that philosophy undoubtedly has carried over into his work at with the children who have attended the various schools Rivera has been employed at over the past two decades.
