    This week, the gunman responsible for the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida pleaded guilty to 17 counts of murder and another 17 counts of attempted murder.
    The prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, but for now, the shooter must await a jury's decision on sentencing. 
    Shortly after the gunman pled, Ryan Petty, whose daughter Alaina was killed in the Parkland shooting, joined host Dave Anthony.
    Petty gave his reaction to the killer's plea and courtroom apology, what he believes can be done to keep kids safe at school and whether or not he will ever get closure.

    Attorney General Merrick Garland testified at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday on the oversight of the Department of Justice. One of the issues brought up during the hearing by some Republican lawmakers was a recent controversial memo by the Attorney General directing the FBI to address threats against educators and school board members by parents over politically charged issues. Republicans arguing the Attorney General was overstepping in matters that should be handled by state and local governments. They also pointed out the memo was sent days after the National School Boards Association asked the Biden administration to utilize tools, including the terrorism-related Patriot Act, to assist in these situations.     Democrats continue to face problems negotiating President Biden's social spending plan, with disagreements about the provisions and price tag setting the stage for a difficult party-line vote.
