The Fat Guys are back with a fresh, new episode!
Join Fern, Mike, Mimi, and Joel with special guests Anahi Coloma and Maria Jose "MaJo" Flores from our Ecuador team as the gang sits down to recap and discuss their recent trip to Colombia for the biennial Proflora show.
Proflora, one of the largest and most well-known floral industry trade shows had over 300 exhibitors during the three-day exhibit.  The hall was visited by more than 6,500 visitors from all over the world, including 6 members of the Jet Fresh team.  Listen in as they discuss farm visits and favorite exhibits, Mike rates booth coffee, and it wouldn't be Colombia without, the parties. In this special episode of #2FatGuysTalkingFlowers we were lucky to have Avi Krell from Plantec Breeding on the pod.  You may have met Avi at one of the many industry trade shows, as he wears many hats, but his official title is Public Relations Manager at Plantec Breeding.  Krell is a 2nd generation rose breeder, a UF Grad, who splits time between Miami and Ecuador.  Listen in as Krell takes us through the tedious breeding process, how they go from 6,000 codes to maybe just 1 worthy variety, how they bred famous roses such as Mondial, Phoenix, Red Panther, Symbol, as well as past varieties like Caramel Antike, Circus, Explorer and so many more.  We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did.

Plantec was born as a pioneer in 1990.  Who were the first to select rose varieties in Latin America for crops in their region and represent 5 rose breeders.   Their work offers a wide collection of varieties entering the market with new shapes and colors every year. Their Representatives send us approximately 6,000 codes per year, of which after a detailed evaluation and selection procedure, we choose the best. This week's podcast is all about our recap of the 2023 SAF Annual Convention!

Jet Fresh Flower Distributors recently joined 470 floral industry professionals at the Society of American Florist (SAF) Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. The event, spanning four days, featured competitions, panel discussions, a supplier expo, and networking opportunities. Notably, Jet Fresh earned accolades for their Candlelight and Funky Cold Medina roses in the Outstanding Varieties Competition, showcasing their high-quality Ecuadorian farm produce.

A pink double Oriental lily, 'Amistad' from Sun Valley Floral Farms, claimed the Best in Show title. The convention also provided educational sessions covering floral industry trends and family succession planning. The supplier expo was a vibrant hub with Flower Roombas and RosaFlora Yellow Bucket Club beer pong, featuring over 40 suppliers, including Jet Fresh partners.

Documentary filmmaker Brett Culp delivered an inspiring talk during the convention, sharing stories that encouraged attendees to embrace their inner superheroes.

The convention's climax was the Stars of the Industry Awards Recognition, honoring exceptional contributions to the floral business. The inaugural Next Gen Rising Star Award recognized Nicole Palazzo, AAF, for her professional accomplishments and industry dedication.

Jet Fresh's leader, Mike Black, was honored with the prestigious Paul Ecke Jr. Award, symbolizing unwavering dedication to professionalism in business, the industry, and the community. Mike's heartfelt acceptance was met with warm hugs and congratulations from fellow floral colleagues, underscoring his indisputable leadership in the floral industry.

In summary, Jet Fresh Flower Distributors shone at the SAF Convention, winning recognition for their roses and engaging in valuable networking. The event offered educational insights, and Mike Black's receipt of the Paul Ecke Jr. Award was a highlight, showcasing his outstanding leadership.
