Developed nations have modern waste streams that are effective and efficient garbage control solutions with only about 2% of waste escaping.  Compare that to developing countries where upwards of 86% escapes the waste stream and that's if there is even a waste stream at all. Cereal companies spend more on advertising than they do ingredients.  They also market almost exclusively to kids.

We lived through the time when consumers actually started to care about sugar intake.  That's when they took the word "Sugar" off the cereal names and started with ads showing cereal as "...part of this nutritious breakfast".

Ads for unsweetened food?  Do they even exist?

The "nanny problem" - The "nanny problem" was industries answer to the NYC pop ban.  New York tried to ban Big Gulps and the industry ran ads that basically said the government wanted to be our baby sitter.   They framed the banning of Big Gulps as an attack on our freedom. We should have the right to drink copious amounts of pop.  Almost all attempts to regulate garbage food is met with this argument.

The theme of garbage continues.  The connection between garbage and food is convenience.  Modernity's requirement that we be constantly busy and running around makes the convenience of things like plastic and processed foods unavoidable and necessary.  Ergo we will be adding processed food to the topic of garbage.

Why do we still have more than one fork?  Are we trying to prove something like we are  by still making the penny?

Zero attention has been paid to raising awareness about it recycling (because it was all just going to China regardless) but also because technological improvements change the game all the time.

Recycling tips:

• Don't remove bottle caps or else they won't get recycled typically instead they fall out of the waste stream or if we are lucky end up in a landfill.  So you think you are trying to help because, separating different types of plastic is good but the recycling plant is designed to receive them as one unit and separates them with machines so even good intentions cause issues.  
• Also black plastic is worthless.  It can't be mixed with other colors without ruining them and a lot of it is used for oil containers and industrial equipment so it's poison.  Recycling plants just send black plastic to the landfill anyways so don't bother recycling it.
• There is an 8 step process for figuring out how to recycle oil containers...it includes calling your garbage company, and maybe just turning them into pots….

Bags in the Waste Stream - Bags are the ultimate combination of convenience and waste not because they take up landfill airspace but because they escape the waste stream or gum up machinery. Is a blockchain type approach the solution?  What if we could mark every piece of plastic with a unique identifier to trace it back to the person who used it?

What about the idea of a trash fast?  Go a day or two without creating any trash?

Coffee shops ban plastic straws and consumers bring reusable bags to supermarkets — but the Gulf Coast's booming petrochemical industry has growing concerns about plastic waste being a threat to its business.

Big price swings continue to challenge the recycling industry. The price of mixed scrap paper, for example, has plummeted from $75 a ton in 2017 to basically zero, said Joe Pickard, chief economist at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.

Much of the plunge is due to China, once the world's biggest importer of recyclable materials. China has stopped accepting a variety of mixed paper and plastic scrap, citing efforts to clean up the environment.

A Houston company called FCC Environmental has sorting equipment and a $25 million facility slated to open in March.  For instance, if soda cans arrive in a plastic bag — which shouldn't happen in curbside pickup, but does — the machinery will open the bag and empty its contents. In older facilities, that bag could end up in the landfill.

FCC Environmental also will have optical sorting equipment that addresses the "Amazon effect," caused by customers receiving small cardboard boxes and not flattening them before recycling. Older machines may not recognize the 3D item as cardboard, instead discarding the box as trash.

A triangle with a number on the bottom of a plastic container does not automatically mean it's recyclable. Nos. 1, 2 and 5 are widely accepted in recycling programs across the country. Garden hoses and plastic bags, which can get tangled in sorting equipment, are always prohibited. Food-stained cardboard boxes are considered contamination, too.

"The next year or so will be challenging for recycling in the United States," said David Biderman, executive director of Solid Waste Association of North America, an organization of industry professionals.

One particularly promising alternative is chemical recycling. This turns plastic back into its building-block molecules, which can be recombined into new plastics without degrading properties as melting does.

"Landfill airspace" is is how we measure landfill capacity.  Basically it is the space on a landfill site used for the disposal of waste. It is initially occupied by air which will eventually be displaced by waste — hence the term "landfill airspace."

Who takes the garbage out?  Why is there not a day dedicated to people who keep garbage moving?

The hustle and bustle of Christmas and the related explosion of trash is a self created problem.  We should "load-level" Christmas by assigning it to people randomly throughout the year. Like itunesclans, you are part of the group that celebrates on a specific day.

Let us apply the concept of "sour grapes" toward garbage. Perhaps we convince ourselves that producing a lot of trash is bad because we are unable to produce it.  It's easier to just hate on the whole idea. It may be necessary to admit that all matter in the universe is constant so we technically aren't changing anything by producing garbage.  Furthermore, sanitary landfills kind of work (for now).

What the difference between the Humane Society and the APL?

Fuck breakfast.  Breakfast is good example of forced consumption propaganda. If the food pyramid was so wrong then who is to say the idea of breakfast is right?  Stands to reason that with a national trend toward increasing obesity (Currently 35%) we should eliminate at least one meal. Breakfast seems like the most likely candidate.
