A remix gives a new sound to an old song, and as our country seeks to find answers in a tense, increasingly divisive culture, the church has a great opportunity to step into the empty places and do what God has desired from the beginning: fill them with His glory.

As we've seen by watching the life of Abraham, God uses discomfort to prepare us for His promises. ut all we've really done to this point is watch. As we come to the end of the journey, God is asking us to take courage so that we can take steps of faith. It's all about trusting in Him and remembering that God won't fail us because God can't fail.

One thing we all have in common is suffering. Another thing we have in common is not always understanding the reason we suffer. After all, most people who stumble in their belief of a good God do so as a result of pain. But as we learn in Week 4 of our disCOMFORT series, there is a point to the pain, and our Father not only doesn’t waste it, He uses it to achieve at least 4 purposes in our lives.

We know that God is faithful, and yet He still calls us to partner with Him in bringing the blessings of heaven to the people on earth. He calls us out of comfort into covenant to be conduits, and He’s looking for people who will fully commit to that process so that we can fully receive the promise. This week we saw how God used discomfort over many years and miles in order to get and ALMOST IN mindset out of Abraham and replace with an ALL IN mindset. What made the difference? Obedience. Simply put, the difference between almost in and all in is obedience.

Not many of us like to wait, do we, but as Paul shows us, the waiting period is actually a preparation period. For moms, it's 9 months. For Abraham, it was 25 years. For all of us in the COVID-19 pandemic, it's still to be determined. But the one thing we do know is that the wait is a gift, and when we understand God's purpose behind it, we'll be less likely to waste it.

When we begin to get comfortable in the wrong places (and sometimes, even in the right places!), God uses discomfort to get us back on track. In this global pandemic, instead of wasting our time trying to figure out who's to blame and when it will end, we would be wise to see how God can use it to call us out of comfort and into covenant. Why? Because He wants to use us as conduits of His blessings!

Being a follower of Jesus is so much more than just looking different; it's actually about being different. As our series in the Sermon on the Mount begins to come to a close, Paul shows us 4 marks that will be increasingly evident in the lives of Jesus followers, and he calls us to courageously examine our own lives to see if we are, in fact, different from people who aren't citizens of the Kingdom.
