The Geek Down

We travel to the ISLE OF DOGS, where hilarity supposedly ensues. Also there's a f***ton of dogs! Who knew? Getting historically political and impolitely hypocritical, DEATH OF STALIN gives a mockumentary-style account of the last days of the Red Tsar himself. WRESTLEMANIA 2018 sees the debut of Ronda Rousey to the squared circle. Did she rouse, or just get wrecked? And we spit game about games at PAX 2018!

Imagine the bastard child of Chuck Norris and Looney Tunes, then gird your loins. That's the closest we can describe Netflix's GAME OVER, MAN! And you're just not ready for APERION CYBERSTORM on Nintendo Switch. Seriously you're not. It's right behind you!! Few things in this world will tickle your geek-bone like ANIME BOSTON, and we were right there holding the feather. ...on second thought, ew. But we've still got the lowdown on AB2018. And if you've ever made a reference, worn a cosplay, or even doodled an obscure insignia, READY PLAYER ONE has something for you.

We didn't cancel the apocalypse, just rainchecked it, in PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING. Ever wonder what Marble Madness would look like on PCP? NEONWALL on Nintendo Switch has that B-roll. STEP SISTERS on Netflix is a story of love and racial disharmony through condoned appropriation...? Hmmm... And illustrator Sara Richard joins us to discuss her collab with the one and only Franco! THE GHOST, THE OWL.

TOMB RAIDER returns to break the "suckass video game movie" curse. Does it succeed? Hmm... BRIDGE CONSTRUCTOR PORTAL merges Aperture Science with the mafia. Um, I mean "construction." How good are portal gadgets, propulsion gel, and cubes for burying a body I wonder. PERSONA 5 brings troubled teens playing thieves to fight corruption set to the funkiest tunes. So funky it spun off several rhythm games! And KONG ON THE PLANET OF THE APES shows the golden golden rule of "Ape must never kill Ape" is straight B*lls#!t. Ape couldn't give LESS of a f*** about killing Ape!

STABBITY BUNNY went from Kickstarter to indie publisher without losing a creepy step. THE LONG REACH on PS4 is simultaneously gory and pixelated... "gorpilated", if you will. ANNIHILATION is everything Predator, Tomb Raider, and The Descent did better. JESSICA JONES season 2 shows us old habits never die, they just return when a dead horse needs beating.

The DEATH WISH remake shows us to never underestimate the wrath of a suburban dad with unlimited funds in Trumps America. Chilean drama film A FANTASTIC WOMAN shows us you can be complex, strong, forthright, even win a 'Best Foreign Language Film' Oscar, and you'll STILL never be good enough for your mother-in-law. The steam game GUTS AND GLORY says "physics and self-preservation... what's that?!" And Netflix brings the popular anime FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST to life with hilarious wigs and an effects budget rivaling anything from Troma! On top of that, someone finally kicked some sense into the Academy Awards' ass.

Never ever underestimate the craziness of creepy neighbors in the comedy film GAME NIGHT. The platform shooter MERCENARY KINGS gets a new hybrid handheld high-def resuscitation on Nintendo Switch. There were twists, turns, over-extensions and eventual breaks, but ultimately the night belonged to the women (and Braun Strowman) at WWE ELIMINATION CHAMBER 2018. And joining us in house is the naughty nerdy Brandy Wine to get uncensored, explicit a raw from a real geek's perspective! We're talking about ROGUE BURLESQUE's new show TALK NERDY TO ME:

The only thing waiting in the mountains is a bigger mountain of crazy in Netflix's THE OPEN HOUSE. We talk KATSUCON 2018 from the koolest to the krappiest. The action role-playing sports video game PYRE -- does it take the brass ring, or is the defense just too thorough? And the black delegation convenes to give the propers on Marvel's latest blockbuster BLACK PANTHER!

DIVINITY: ORIGINAL SIN II on Steam gives our idle hands something naughty to do, BLACK PANTHER ADVENTURES primes our pumps for the cinematic release, HOUSE PARTY on Steam challenges us to virtually get it wet, and then CLOVERFIELD PARADOX prematurely blew it's big surprise and now impotently tried to reinvigorate the franchise.

Even mutual hardship, shared experience, societal codependency, and the power of love are no match for good ol' down-home racism in Netflix's MUDBOUND. Looking to recapture the grand-scape glory of last year's Spiderverse miniseries, Marvel brings together variants of everyone's favorite formerly cannibalistic killer in VENOMVERSE. When a sprung, thirsty Viking boo screws up royal, she'll go through Helheim itself to get another taste in the dark fantasy action-adventure game HELLBLADE: SENUA'S SACRIFICE. Must've been some damn good D to be willing to be damned FOR... And straight from the pages of Archie Comics, LIFE WITH KEVIN brings readers an older, wiser and more worldly Kevin Keller as he and his BFF Veronica take on the world in true 90's edgy-sitcom fashion.
