Showing a vast improvement over the previous year, Katsucon returns to the ranks as one of our favorite conventions. Struggles with panel management and event coordinataion hung a dark cloud over the convention going in, and it was touch and go for a bit as to whether they could bounce back. Thankfully someone in the organization was paying attention, as this years Katsucon delivered a solid and downright fun as hell experience. Traditionally held in February over Presidents Day weekend, Katsucon is a Japanese pop-culture convention that takes place every year in Washington, DC.

Jonny got to feel out the supernatural technological genre-crossing hodge-podge of a game, Ghost 1.0. While it sounds convoluted, being a conglomeration of multiple styles might actually be the thing that makes it worth playing. "Ghost" is a metroidvania where two super hackers hire a mysterious agent in order to infiltrate the Nakamura Space Station and steal the greatest electronic secret ever. And the station defends itself, fighting infiltrators with extreme prejudice! Heavy defenses, never-ending arsenal of weapons, and mysterious artifacts are forthcoming. It will all have to be destroyed. Bonus: Spread throughout the game are hidden "geekies". If you find one and activate it, something related to that geekie will change in the game (not affecting gameplay)... and the challenge is to find out what changes.

'Dear White People' sparks calls for Netflix boycott. With the announcement that Netflix is set to stream the TV adaptation of the 2014 film Dear White People, some people have cancelled their subscription in protest. Set in a predominantly white Ivy League college, the 10-episode adaptation focuses on a series of racially insensitive parties that spark tensions on campus and inspire one of the characters to become more direct in her critiques of the school's white student population. On Twitter, Tim Treadstone, a former Buzzfeed writer and outspoken member of the alt-right Twitter mob, argued that Dear White People was promoting "white genocide" and encouraged his followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions in protest
