  • SPECIAL: John "Captain Planet" Hickenlooper

    Send us a message! Really!

He’s a geologist, he’s a brewer, he’s a mayor, he’s a governor, and he’s the dude who cut the biggest deal on climate policy in the history of the country. Colorado Sen. John Hickenlooper joins us for a special episode of the Get More Smarter Podcast so that you can get all the details of the historic Inflation Reduction Act straight from the source!

  • Two Statewide Republicans May Have Already Lost

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, sure abortion is popular in Kansas, but how will it play in the heartland? It’s not November, but GOP candidate for Attorney General John Kellner already lost his race, and as a matter of fact Lang Sias probably did, too. Meanwhile, the top of the ticket is going nearly as poorly as the Ganahl campaign utterly implodes and the O’Dea campaign is doing absolutely everything they can to say as little as possible; the rest of the GOP ticket sucks too, and the national congressional generic ballot average has pulled to EVEN for the first time since last November. You can pack up your floaties because the 2022 red wave ain’t coming.

*That Kansas joke is brought to you by friend of the show, Professor Seth Masket.

  • Undefeated Against Unicorns

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, Joe O’Dea is a unicorn! So was Darryl Glenn! We dive deep into Colorado election law to determine if mythical creatures meet the qualifications to run for U.S. Senate. Losing losers who lost their primaries are raising money for a recount that will show that they are in fact losing losers who lost their primaries, again, but not before wasting a whole lot of time and money proving what losing losers they are. As election denial is getting more expensive it’s also getting lazier as fake news websites try to peddle election conspiracy theories for races that were not even close. Ken Buck sucks and the state of Colorado should have revoked his law license back in 2020; Colorado media outlets finally catch up with the Get More Smarter Podcast to ask Heidi Ganahl how she plans on paying for her $9 billion income tax cut; and hateful bigots are trying to impose their religious values on an entire country whose main founding document makes it extremely clear that the whole point of the founding of the nation was to not fucking do that.

  • The World's Smallest Gun (feat. Treasurer Dave Young)

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, Heidi Ganahl picks a running mate, again, and somehow it goes worse than the time where she picked a running mate who didn’t end up being the running mate; a group of people calling themselves Democrats for Heidi appear out of nowhere and at least one of them is a Republican who ran for state senate like two years ago and is still a registered Republican; Mitch McConnell says Joe O’Dea is the key to getting him back in the majority in the US Senate, and for once we believe him; and our guest is Colorado State Treasurer Dave Young, who tells us what he does all day and the sort of priceless antiquities sitting inside a big vault near his office.

  • Republicans Move On After Weird Primaries in Colorado

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, Heidi Gah…Gah…Gah…not going to win the Governor’s race as she bungles yet another campaign layup; the Colorado Republican Party tries to convince voters not to vote for Jared Polis by spending quite a lot of time publishing his many accomplishments; GOP US Senate Nominee Joe O’Dea gets mad when people repeat the things he says, which is not how messaging is supposed to work; and our seventh favorite Colorado congressional representative’s gun-themed restaurant, Shooter’s Grill, finally stops trying to pretend that people want to eat there.

  • Piecing Through the Primary Election (feat. Seth Masket)

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast...we were wrong! Turns out neither Jason nor I are infallible, and if you are, good for you! We unpack this week’s somewhat surprising Primary Election outcomes with our special guest, University of Denver Professor Seth Masket, who directs the Center for American Politics. We talk about what happened, why, and how the Primary might affect the General Election in November.

  • Predicting the Primary Election (feat. Armin Thomas)

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast...with one week left to go in the primaries, Colorado Republican Candidates are finally on the air with their own ads after leaving the entire environment open for months. Will it change the outcome of any of the races? We'll tell you. Also...The Denver Post Editorial Board comes right out and says it: John Eastman is proof that the Bruce Benson Center at the University of Colorado has no reason to exist. And our guest today is Armin Thomas of Split Ticket; we let the professional prognosticator tell us what’s going to happen next week, and ask him about his favorite Colorado district ever.

  • Heidi Ganahl Won't Let Greg Lopez Lose

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, the GOP is freaking out about a tactic they’ve used and we’ve used and everyone has used before, mostly because they do not want to talk about their terrible ideas that no one agrees with. We pre-preview the newest edition of the Rocky Mountaineer, and it’s exactly what we thought it would be; Colorado plays an oversize role in all American politics, and that is unfortunately the case with the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on January 6; Lauren Boebert is a wreck, and this time we’re talking about an ATV; Jason and I LARP an interview with Tina Peters and can’t make it make any more sense; and Ken Buck apparently clears the weeds from his lawn with Javelin missiles.

  • It's. The. Guns. (feat. Rep. Tom Sullivan)

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast...there have been 213 mass shootings so far in 2022. What are we even doing anymore? Our 6th and 7th favorite congresspeople from Colorado continue to embarrass themselves (and all of us) on a daily basis; primary ballots drop next week; and we predict the election results so you don’t have to. But first, our guest this week is state representative Tom Sullivan, who is Colorado’s leading gun violence prevention expert and advocate. We talk gun policy, his personal story, and his campaign for the new Senate District 27.

  • Does This Look Like it Could Be Weird? (feat. Alec Garnett)

    Send us a message! Really!

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, the violent white replacement conspiracy theory embraced by many Republican politicians spurred yet another mass shooting in a community of color; we ask why on earth some Colorado Republicans have courted and accepted endorsements from some of the conspiracy’s biggest boosters. Our 7th favorite congressperson from Colorado spent the week blaming Joe Biden for the baby formula shortage and then became one of 9 monsters to vote against helping low income families get it because she’s a lying, callous monster who exists solely to embarrass the good people of Colorado’s third congressional district. The three Colorado Republicans vying for the chance to lose to Jena Griswold this November got together for a debate, and Jason listened to the whole thing so you don’t have to. Greg Lopez, the top-line Republican candidate for governor, has a plan to help Republicans finally win in Colorado, which is essentially to make sure their votes count more than those of Democrats.

But first, we interview Colorado House Speaker Alec Garnett once more to wrap up his final legislative session holding the gavel! The Speaker will reflect on his 8 years as a legislator and his two years leading the largest Democratic caucus in the history of Colorado, probably.
