  • Convo #27: Pyper and Lu on "We are doing the best we can!"

Recorded live in Carlton, Melbourne VIC 3053 on Wednesday 3rd June 2020.

I met Pyper through the Study Melbourne Ambassadors 2020 Program and she was one of the first Ambassadors that I got to chat to. I just love her energy so much and we could go on and on about random things. After chatting to her on the Study Melbourne Leadership Labs podcast and just casually chatting to her about life, I finally chat to her on The Glocals podcast. This experience was definitely different and we are both so glad that we could form a friendship thanks to our convos.

With me and Pyper both being in a place of changes and growth, we reflected on our journeys and discussed how we are learning to be kind to ourselves and others. Empathy and compassion are not just for others, because they start from within. Now, more than ever, we need to know and acknowledge that we are doing the best we can.

I can’t wait to chat to Pyper in person and give her a real, not virtual, squeeze real soon!

    All our love,

    Pyper and Lu

  • Convo #26: Diane and Lu on Appreciating Life

Recorded live in Ringwood, Melbourne VIC 3134 on Monday 18th May 2020.

Diane has been a huge supporter of my work as well as all the other La Trobe students and she’s always there for us. I’ve known her for quite a while and she has this energy, this way about her that is just so positive. I’ve always wanted to have this chat with her, but you know, life happens and we couldn’t really sit down and have a chat until now.

When I asked her to join me on the podcast, she said yes, but she wanted to chat to me first because the topic she wanted to talk about, according to her, is a tough one to talk about. This has never happened before, and when she finally told me what it was, I cried a little. Not because it is a sad thing, but because I had no idea she was struggling with that much pain and still remained so positive and still supported us students with all her heart.

It’s one of those little things that remind me of how human we all are, and how we should always pay attention to the people around us. I wish I could hug her right there and then. But of course, we couldn’t hug in person, so I sent her my virtual hugs and promised to shout her KFC - her fave!

Diane’s message for our convo is: “Life is short - appreciate those around you and appreciate the small things.” She also shared: “I enjoyed the freedom to share my story - a topic that may be taboo for some in the community. The natural flow of the conversation was also enjoyable.”

For those of you that would like to know more about our amazing Diane and her journey, her message for you is: “Listeners can follow my 'journey' on Instagram under the account > geeeesman”.

    All our love,

    Diane and Lu

  • Convo #25: Amardeep and Lu on Observing and Understanding Yourself

Recorded live in Melbourne, VIC 3134 and Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday 13 May 2020 (after hours).

Friends, I’ve never missed a Monday ever since I started The Glocals podcast, but I did this week. I guess hitting the 6th month of doing this show while a lot goes on really got the best of me. But I’ve forgiven myself! It’s not about hitting all those dates, but rather truly have those soulful convos. And on this week’s episode, I am once again reminded of how much this show means to me.

My guest/Glocal fellow this week, Amardeep, found me on Linkedin and connected to me earlier this week. I immediately shared about The Glocals and lucky for me, he was super keen to join the show. I really thought I was gonna miss a week, but hey, better late than never!

As surprised as Amardeep was about how organic this podcast episode was, I was super happy and inspired by our chat. It was great getting to know more about him as a human, and I absolutely get why he’s chosen the career of a coach!

All I am gonna say about this convo is that it is a truly soulful one. Please give it a listen if you would like to know how your fellow humans/Glocals have learned to find balance and learn more about themselves. When asked about how he felt about this convo, Amardeep said “I loved the genuine and authenticness of having a free flowing conversation and how you have the ability to make your guests feel safe and welcome!”. This makes me so so happy and that’s why I love working on this podcast so so much!

Amardeep sent you all a message that if you want to improve your mindset, performance and wellness, then please feel free to reach out to him at [email protected] or to follow him on Linkedin at https://www.linkedin.com/in/amardeepgill/.

We hope you learn how to observe yourself and find your balance!

    Cheers,

    Amardeep and Lu

  • Convo #24: Feong and Lu on Finding What Works for Your Own Kind of Healthy Lifestyle

Recorded live in Winnipeg, Canada and Melbourne, Australia on Saturday 2 May 2020 and Sunday 3 May 2020.

Mindful eating and exercising are the aspects that I'm sure we all think about, at least every now and again. We eat everyday, but what about exercising?

I sat down with my gal pal after a very very long time and we chose to talk about this topic because Feong is super passionate about it. She is now running an instagram page called @meeatwell_ where she shares about this very topic and it has a couple of thousands followers. I love her contents with tips and an emphasis on finding what works for you and the way she takes her photos, so aesthetically pleasing!

We'd never talked about this topic before so we went all out! We are both on our own journeys with mindful eating and exercising, and I'm sure you are too. We are no experts, but we went all out to share about what works for us, and maybe, just maybe, you can pick up something for yourself!

    All our love,

    Feong and Lu

  • Convo #23: Hoa and Lu on The importance of Building a Personal Brand and Networking

Recorded live in Ringwood, Melbourne VIC 3134 on Wednesday 15 April 2020.

I met Hoa through Study Melbourne Ambassadors 2020 Program, and I am so glad that she was one of the few to say yes to joining me on The Glocals podcast. We both come from Vietnam, so it was a little strange to chat in English, but I'm glad we did because what we talked about can really help anyone and everyone!

To us, being in the early stage of our careers means that we have the luxury to learn from others and also be creative. No matter which stage you are at in your career, chances are you agree with us when it comes to the importance of personal branding and networking. These 2 go hand in hand and they are the key to success, and we both share the same view mainly because we share so much in our own journeys. We hope that this helps our friends out there who wish to kickstart their careers, and we hope that experienced professionals can add to what we have to say!

    Cheers,

    Hoa and Lu

  • Convo #22: Silvia and Lu on Curiosity.

Recorded live in Ringwood, Melbourne VIC 3134 and Germany on Saturday 11 April 2020.

I met Silvia when literally just moved to Melbourne. There she was in a Unicef t-shirt fundraising on the street and at the time I don't know what got into me but I approached her instead of the other way around and asked her about joining Unicef. I was so happy I got to join the team but shortly after, she left Australia to return to Germany. We lost touch for a bit but I'm so glad we've reconnected now. So much love and positive energies in this convo!

We discussed all things curiosity and how staying curious can be beneficial for us in multiple ways. It does not only help with seeing the world with different eyes but also with how we see ourselves. I had so much fun and it was such a good reminder to "be curious, not judgemental"!

    All our love,

    Silvia and Lu

  • Convo #21: Shawn and Lu on Speaking with Mindfulness.

Recorded live in Ringwood, Melbourne VIC 3134 on Friday 10 April 2020.

I met Shawn at a Melbourne meetup about Knowledge Management and I was captivated by his love for storytelling, and coming to know that he's the founder of Anecdote was one of the highlights for me. I was intrigued to learn about how he would tell his stories, so I asked him to join the podcast. Luckily for us, he said yes and we had a really good chat about speaking with mindfulness.

How often do you actually pay attention to the tiny signs in a conversation? Do you realise how you present yourself and your ideas? Have you ever wondered why some politicians speak in certain ways that sometimes don't make sense while others speak from the heart and it touches you?

We discussed them all, and I learned so much from a good old conversation with Shawn. It was also really great to get to know how Anecdote came about!

  • Convo #20: Ziggy and Lu on Focussing on the positive during COVID-19.

Recorded live in Ringwood, VIC 3134 on Friday 27 March 2020.

During this time, creating contents for this podcast is more important for me than ever. Personally. I feel like being able to push through during this time will help me get to where I wanna be with The Glocals. And I'm guessing a lot share the same feeling.

I kept reaching out to people more than ever to have meaningful conversations, which are much needed during this time. Lucky for me, I got Ziggy to join after getting to know her (virtually) through Study Melbourne Ambassador Program 2020. We are both ambassadors this year, and I am super grateful to be in the program to meet people like Ziggy.

We talked for the first time ever over Zoom, and it was such a good one. When I reached out to all the ambassadors about this podcast, Ziggy was the first to respond, and she was so keen to join that my heart just felt like blooming! It was so good to get to know her like this, and her energy made me really happy. She also describes herself "as a Gemini full of curiosity, Ziggy is keen on your stories or any ideas. Feel free to connect on FB or Linkedin(Ziggy Hao)." Please feel free to contact her if you'd like a good chat and make a cool friend!

I am well aware that it's tough to talk about anything else during this period, but we both decided to focus on the positives instead. Gratitude and perspective really matter, and I am so glad we have the same viewpoint! Please give this convo a listen to find out what we are grateful for during this period and what makes it a little better.

It's all about perspective friends, so whatever you focus your attention on will be your focus.

    Cheers,

    Ziggy and Lu

  • Convo #19: Ziying and Lu on Enjoying the Little Things during Tough Times.

Recorded live in Ringwood, VIC 3134 & Carlton, VIC 3053 on Wednesday 25 March 2020.

When the world seems to have come to a standstill, I sat down with a cup of coffee and had a good old chat with my gal pal Ziying. I love her energy so much, and it was so good to finally have this convo for the podcast. We have only become friends recently but I've realised that we are both creatives, we care about others in the same way and we have the same sentiment for life I'd say. Ziying sings so beautifully, writes wholeheartedly and she has an awesome YouTube Channel too, would you like to check it out?

How have you been holding up?

It has been a really challenging time for us all, isn't it?

But when we had this chat, our positive energies just bounced off each other and became tenfold I must say.

Ziying used to be in a really touch place last year, and she was under social isolation because of her situation. But then and even now, her enjoying the little things and feeling the joy thanks to them is what makes her so positive. She enjoys life so much and so do I, so I hope our energies will rub off on you too.

Stay strong and stay positive friend! We know it is hard to suddenly switch to a different lifestyle, but it only shows how strong we are. And the most important thing is: find the little things around you everyday that makes you happy and you'll be amazed at what you've been missing all this time.

    All our love,

    Ziying and Lu

  • Convo #18: Mollie and Lu on Collaboration during COVID—19.

Recorded live in Ringwood, VIC 3134 on Friday 20 March 2020.

    Hi friends,

It has been a really strange time and our lives are pretty much upside down no matter what you are up to. However, it is not a time to dwell on the bad but rather focus our energy on the good. And in this conversation I had with Mollie, we talked about how important it is to utilise the amazing online tools we have to collaborate on great ideas during this time.

Mollie is an amazing academic at La Trobe University that I really adore, and you can find her on social media at Mollie Dollinger to know more about her awesome CoLabs, Hackathon and Student Partnerships initiatives.

Please don't forget to practice social distancing, stay healthy and stay connected with others online!

    Cheers,

    Mollie and Lu
