  • MASLOW'S PEAK - SELF-ACTUALIZATION - UNAPOLOGETICALLY ME!/THEUNBREAKABLE PERSON!

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world," says Gandhi.

Hi, it's RHONDA, "The GOOD Influence - HER."

Yes, this is me! You know this if you have subscribed and listened every other week to my podcast. This is what I say at the top of all my shows. I am so proud of myself. I am unapologetically me! I did it all on my very own. I came up with the concept, wrote all the shows, found my theme music, and did all my own editing. I was brave and bold enough to accomplish this goal because I used Maslow's Pyramid of Needs to be my guide to get me to the top at Level - 5, "Self-Actualization".

Level 5 is Maslow's peak where the ultimate exists, "Self-Actualization". Maslow describes self-actualization as a realization of one's full potential to accomplish everything that one can become the most that one can be. This is your personal choice of the best version of yourself that you want to be in life. If you desire to be the best teacher, sailor, runner, chef, or rocket scientist then you are consumed and exude that goal throughout every cell of your being. I like to think of it as being "unapologetically me", the "unbreakable person". So, what others think about what you are doing with your life good or bad doesn't change or shatter your opinion about your goal. You are empowered and don't need to be fueled by anybody but your belief.

  • MASLOW'S ESTEEM - HI-LOW - WHERE IS YOUR SELF-ESTEEM?

    Hi! It's Rhonda..."The GOOD Influence - HER."

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world," Gandhi.

Level - 4 is "Esteem", Maslow defined self-esteem as respect, status, recognition, freedom, and strength. This is the level where I learned about what respect, self-esteem, recognition, strength, and freedom really are to me in my life.  Do you need accolades and recognition? Or, are you beginning the journey of gaining authentic self-confidence and self-respect? How self-confident are you? I'll answer it for you or whether I'll answer it for myself, we need both. I know I like to be acknowledged at some point for the work, time, and energy I have given to help others, it can just be a simple thank you. And, there are times that I am strong enough to be the bigger person and know my self-worth and value in a situation. What is lovely at this level is that I can support someone else and congratulate them on their work. So, there is a fusion of "high' self-esteem and the "low" version of esteem. This is a great place for self-examination and to build more of your higher self-esteem value so you can reach the top of Maslow's Pyramid.

  • MASLOW'S LOVE AND BELONGING - MAKE IT PERSONAL

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world," Gandhi.

Hi! It's Rhonda, The GOOD Influence - HER.

With my physiological needs and safety needs met I have newfound freedom to discover the things I love to do and to work with people who share my passion. This is the glory and benefits for me working up to Level -3 of Maslow's Pyramid of Needs. The camaraderie I have with my friends in the  AFSP organization is so just so fulfilling for me. I can't imagine my life without what I have experienced these last 2 months since becoming a volunteer.

I share this because you can imagine the opposite of what I just described is loneliness, social anxiety, and clinical depression. There are so many people who are suffering from depression, loneliness, and anxiety. I know all too well those feelings of hopelessness and despair.

Take a quick listen to this soundbite and get a taste of the good life you will be experiencing from working up "Maslow's Pyramid of Needs.

  • MASLOW'S SAFETY NEEDS - A MICROSCOPIC VIEW TO CLARIFY YOURRRR... INSECURITIES

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world," Gandhi.

Hi! I'm Rhonda...The GOOD Influence - HER.   What are safety needs? Maslow says safety needs are personal security, emotional security, financial security for your well-being. Manifestations of these are long-term employment such as job security, health insurance, savings or retirement accounts, disability policies; do you have these protections? The common theme is "security".  What Maslow is saying is that we are living "insecure" lives. Are you one of those people whose paycheck is completely spent before the check is even printed and nothing goes into a saving account? Are you working a job that offers no health benefits or life insurance benefits? Are you in over your head and upside down in a 30-year mortgage? Ten years ago, my answer was yes to all of those questions.

In this episode, we continue on to discuss Level 2 "Safety Needs". I think you're going to instantly understand why creating and securing your safety needs propels you to the next level. I discovered the key to building level two was to consider my worth. I had to go from questioning "Am I worth it?" to "I am worth it!" For some reason, I accepted struggle as a part of my daily life. It seemed if I didn't struggle there was no value in the end prize. I can only describe it as some sort of melodramatic soap opera I was living. If I easily attained a goal it had less value than an accomplishment that I could live to tell about. I had to rewire my thinking to believe that "I am worthy". I  read somewhere in one of Maya Angelou's books that "abundance is our birthright" and that was the concept I needed to claim and own if I was to build a solid Level 2 foundation.

  • MASLOW'S FOUNDATION OF PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS - THE STRUGGLE IS REAL LIKE A SELF-INFLICTING WOUND

Hi! It is Rhonda...The GOOD Influence - HER.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world," Gandhi.

Air, water, food, shelter, sleep, clothing, and reproduction are all Physiological Needs that MUST be met in order to be successful.   I truly believe this and agree with Maslow.  Let me explain why I am passionate about people NOT taking for granted the power in solidifying that ALL of your physiological needs are met.  Growing up in California it was not common for a Black family to be a homeowner.  My family rented nice houses in very nice communities to show me and my sisters a better way of living.  What backfired was that I became insecure about shelter. I never felt safe that my bedroom or bathroom was actually mine.  I lived in fear that we would have to pack up, move, and start over and over and over.  I spent more time and life living in fear with this shelter insecurity and it bled over into food insecurity, an eating disorder, which led to lack of sleep and tremendous stress over decades of my life.  See, my well-being and freedom, and joy of life was stolen.  I needed to get that back.  Using Maslow's Pyramid of Needs, I realized that it was normal to feel insecure because this need was NOT met. Today, my need for permanent shelter has been twice fulfilled with no mortgages hanging over my head.  I own me!  I feel so blessed to have this freedom and many other freedoms.  This is what I want to share with you, my experience, strength, and hope in this podcast so, you can claim your freedoms too.  I am so excited to share with you the value of building a formidable foundation.  If you do this, I truly believe will be life-changing.
Again, I am also adding a link below so you can view a short "review" video on Maslow's Pyramid.
