Unrelated to the MacKinnon news, Sampo Ranta was sent down to the Colorado Eagles as Alex Newhook was called up. Ranta didn't do anything bad in the first 10 games of the season, but it didn't do anything eye popping either, hence the move to Newhook who has been eating the AHL alive. Let's hope that carries over for him in this go-round with the Avs.

And then there was the weird news involving Val Nichushkin and a blood test from 2013 that could come back to haunt him in terms of his Olympic availability.
