CrossFit is both a physical exercise philosophy and a competitive fitness sport, incorporating elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, kettlebell lifting, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises. It is presented as a training regimen that prepares its trainees for any physical contingency, preparing them for what may be "unknown" and "unknowable". It is practiced by members in CrossFit-affiliated gyms known as 'boxes'.

James Bish is the founder, owner and head coach at CrossFit Plymouth, one of the earliest CrossFit-Affiliate Boxes in the UK. He has been involved with CrossFit for 16 years and has competed countless times and coached many competitors, including Maz Glover who competed in the CrossFit Games

Dr Toby Nelson from the Channel 5 TV Show Skin A&E, qualified from Guys, Kings and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 2007. He served as a Medical Officer in the British Army for nine years and gained membership to the Royal College of Physicians in 2012 becoming a Consultant Dermatologist in 2017. 

Toby successfully completed an internationally acclaimed fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology in New Zealand under the tutorage of Dr Paul Salmon and Neil Mortimer, gaining membership to the prestigious American college of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). Toby is one of only a handful of dermatologists in the UK and Europe with this accreditation.

In the UK, suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 and on average one man every two hours takes his life. Andy's man Club are a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online. 

Craig Harrison is the lead facilitator of Andy's Man Club in Plymouth. After struggling with his own mental health following a separation he found Andy's Man Club in a neighbouring town before opening a club locally. Now they help dozens of men each week by removing the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and through the power of conversation.

Andy's Man Club has over 120 free support groups nationwide, running every Monday from 7PM except bank holidays. In these groups, men can open up about the storms affecting their lives in a safe, judgement-free and non-clinical environment. Our clubs are designed to be free of pressure, there is no obligation for men to speak, they can simply listen if they wish.

With over 2800 men using our sessions every week, and an army of 900+ volunteers on board, the movement is continuing to grow week-by-week. We firmly believe in the power of talking and that #ItsOkayToTalk.

Established in 2016 by Elaine, Andy’s Mum, and Luke, Andy’s Brother-in-Law, the aim of the club is to provide men with a safe space where they feel comfortable to talk and open up about their experiences in a room free of judgment.

Wayne Child is the Co-Founder and Owner of Gym Bubbas, a Small Chain of Kids Gymnastics Schools. Wayne grew up in a rough area of London and lost both his parents a young age, leading him toward a path of petty crime. Despite this, Wayne changed his direction in life and now owns a successful business and helps kids to move better and live more fulfilled lives.

Gym Bubbas offer structured gymnastics classes for children aged 4 months – 12 years, teaching them a whole variety of gymnastic skills from forward rolls to swings on the rings! Their structured classes are designed to help develop physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities but most of all to be fun! In each class their highly trained instructors use a variety of individual and group activities to develop flexibility, strength, balance and coordination.

Mike Grundy is an English professional mixed martial artist and retired freestyle wrestler who competed in the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). During his wrestling career, Grundy most notably claimed a bronze medal from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Mike started wrestling at a young age of 6, under the guidance of his late father. During his wrestling career, Grundy represented both England and Great Britain. He made two Junior World Teams and one Senior World Team while wrestling for England. Grundy wrestled for Great Britain in the men's freestyle 74 kg division at the 2009 World Wrestling Championships. Competing for England, he competed in the men's freestyle 74 kg event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where he finished 5th overall. In his last international wrestling event, Grundy also competed for England in the men's freestyle 74 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where he won a bronze medal.

He holds a professional MMA record of 12-4 with 9 finishes. He made his amateur mixed martial arts debut in 2011, followed by professional debut in September 2014. Over the next three years, Grundy competed for various promotions including Shooto, BAMMA, and Absolute Championship Berkut. He amassed a record of 11 wins against 1 loss before joining the UFC.

Steve Hollister is a 6th Dan Shotokan Karate Black Belt and has been practicing Karate for over 40 years. He has extensive high level international competition experience, winning WKA World and European Championships in 2011 and 2013 to name a few.

Steve also has many years of coaching experience in Karate and was Voted the Plymouth Herald’s ‘Coach of the Year in 2011. In 2023, he is the head striking coach here at Flo Martial In Plymouth.

Following a tragic loss to his family in 2010, he found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is now a Brown belt under Kenny Baker. Despite having a hip replacement in early 2023, he was back rolling just 7 weeks after this huge operation and still remains to be a pain in the ass for most people on the mats.

Paris Payne is a qualified Physiotherapist and also a Strength and Conditioning Coach with a
 30 year track record of high achievement, which includes - Elite Level Sports,
 Ministry of Defence (MoD) and National Health Service (NHS). Prior to this, his career as a contemporary dancer and 
movement coach saw him working extensively in the UK and overseas.

His practice, PhysioConditioning is based in Plymouth UK but he also works
 overseas and via online in his performance consultant role. Whilst his main occupation is working with athletes, he has always 
maintained a strong interest in working with any members of the public 
seeking a high level of rehabilitation for injury or personal health/fitness development.

A main focus of his approach is in unlocking restricted patterns of movement
 (kinetic chain flow), to develop improved Mobility, Stability, Strength and

Kallum is a hardworking Medical Student, working two jobs and doing charity work in his spare time. Prior to 2020, he spent 15 years stuck in a broken system, Seeking Asylum in the UK after his family of Evangelical Christian, Doctors had to flee their native country of Sri Lanka following persecution from Extremist Buddhists.

The UK asylum system is broken and currently costs the UK some £3 billion a year and rising, including nearly £6 million a day on hotel accommodation. Many come to the UK with the intention of becoming economic migrants and are able to exploit our asylum system, which should be prioritising those whose lives are genuinely at risk, like Kallum and his family.

Gary Sawyer is a former professional footballer with over 500 appearances, playing in the Conference, all the way up to the Championship. He started his career at Plymouth Argyle, and in-between spells at Home Park has also played for Leyton Orient, Weymouth, Exeter City, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers before ending his career back at Plymouth Argyle, as 1st Team Captain. 

On May 6 2021, Plymouth Argyle announced Gary Sawyer has been forced to retire from professional football due to injury at the age of 35 after managing just one appearance in the 2020–21 season. It was also announced that Sawyer would take up an ambassadorial role with Plymouth Argyle upon the expiration of his contract in the summer of 2021. The role would include "elements of coaching in the Pilgrims’ new-look and ambitious Academy set-up, outreach work with the Argyle Community Trust, and specific club duties both on match-days and throughout the week".
