  • Tombstone 20 (Jeremy King, Actor & Zoe Graham, Actress, Scare Package)

    Welcome...to the graveyard.

It's my pleasure to welcome Jeremy King ("Chad") and Zoe Graham ("Jessie") from the horror anthology film Scare Package. They will discuss the film, their experience working with writer/director Aaron Koontz, and a few other things that I won't print for those that haven't seen the film yet.

Scare Package is currently streaming on Shudder, but on October 20th the film will be available on Digital, VOD, and Blu-Ray.

    ____________________________________________

Now, the disclaimer- if you haven’t seen Scare Package, and you don’t want to know anything about the film you should turn back now and come back after you’ve seen the film. While we did our best not to ruin anything for those who haven’t seen the film, there are some things that we do discuss. There are a few surprises we talk about and some moments from the film, but that couldn’t be helped. After all, it is an interview, and if I avoided everything about the movie there wouldn't be anything to talk about.

So again. You have been warned….you have been warned…you have been warned! I don’t want any angry emails because I gave something away in the film before you saw it.

  • Tombstone 19 (Alex Magaña, Director, Smiling Woman & Aria Jackson, Director, Phone Home)

    Welcome...to the graveyard.

I am thrilled to welcome two independent filmmakers from the world of horror shorts to the program.

Alex Magaña is the writer/director of such horror shorts as Smiling Woman, Lost In the Woods, and Outbreak (among others). We will discuss how he began writing and directing horror shorts, making his films while under Covid quarantine, and how he tries to "hook people" when they watch his movies online.

Aria Jackson is the writer/director of the horror short Phone Home, which recently won Best Supernatural Film and Best Original Story at the 2020 Hollywood Horrorfest. We'll discuss how she created the story by working backwards from the film's ending, how she approaches filmmaking, and how she stuck to her original vision for the film's ending, even when some people told her it wouldn't work.

The Graveyard Show Podcast can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Pod Bean, and wherever podcasts are found. The show was also just recently added to Amazon Prime Music. You can also visit the YouTube channel- The Graveyard Show Podcast.

    Welcome...to the graveyard.

Hello, and welcome to the third and final part of my interview with Kim Paffenroth, author of the book Gospel of the Living Dead. The book analyzes Romero's films Night, Dawn, Day, and Land of the Dead.

In this podcast we will focus on the films Day and Land of the Dead, and discuss the following:

    * How the character of Sarah compares and contrasts with the characters of Barbara and Fran from the previous two films.

    * How Bub was a precursor to Big Daddy.

    * Were the military the real villians in Day?

    * How Dante's Inferno relates to Day.

    * Which character in Day and Land Kim considers to be the "most villainous"?

    * How Land mirrors a Post-9/11 America.

  • Tombstone 14 (Kim Paffenroth, Gospel of the Living Dead) Part 2

    Welcome...to the graveyard.

Hello, and welcome to the second of my three-part interview with Kim Paffenroth, author of the book Gospel of the Living Dead. The book analyzes Romero's films Night, Dawn, Day, and Land of the Dead.

In this podcast we will discuss the films Night and Dawn of the Dead, and the themes presented in those two films such as:

    * Why the characters in Night are not very likable.

    * Why Ben could never be a hero in Night.

    * How the posse in both films feel more like a lynch mob Vs. a force of good.

    * How zombies can only represent the sin of gluttony (not just because of the obvious!).

    * How the costumes in Dawn reflect the characters.

    * Why the characters in Dawn are "empty" living in a mall full of stuff.

    * The parallel between the zombies in Dawn and the Damned in Dante's Inferno.

    and much more!

  • Tombstone 13 (Kim Paffenroth, Gospel of the Living Dead)

    Welcome...to the graveyard.

I thought I would stay on-topic from my last podcast and continue the discussion of George Romero's zombie films. This time I welcome author Kim Paffenroth into the graveyard, and we will talk about his book Gospel of the Living Dead. The book analyzes Romero's films Night, Dawn, Day, and Land of the Dead.

We will discuss Kim's interest in zombies, how horror and religion collide, bringing academic analysis to pop culture, and we will begin a light breakdown of his book.

This is part one of three, and in the next two podcasts we will discuss the four films in much greater detail.

The Graveyard Show Podcast can be found on YouTube, Apple Podcast, Anchor, Google Play, and wherever podcasts are available.

  • Tombstone 12 (Judith O'Dea, Night of the Living Dead)

    Welcome...to the graveyard.

It's the interview that's been sitting on my hard drive for almost 10 years, and the interview I've been teasing since I reopened the gates of the graveyard; it's my interview with Judith O'Dea (Barbara), one of the stars of the original Night of the Living Dead, and like the zombies from the film, this interview has risen from the grave to finally see the light of day.

We will talk about the making of the film, how she approached her character of Barbara, filming the chase sequence at the beginning of the film, and what it was like working with Duane Jones and George Romero, among other things.

    Welcome...to the graveyard.

I am wrapping up the topic of Horror Hosts, and what better way then to hear from three more:

    * Ms. Monster and her Monster Melons

    * Freakshow and June from the Bordello of Horror

    * Helena, the Hussy of Horror

If you want to find out more about The Bordello of Horror check out there website at www.bordelloofhorror.com to find out where you can watch them every week.

The next episode will be uploaded very quickly, and it is the interview that no one has heard- the one that's been sitting on my hard drive all of these years. It's an interview with a star of a major (and influential) horror film, and the interview is just about the making of that film. So stay tuned for that one over these next few days.
