Welcome to the mid-month January episode of The GB Mickey Waffle.  

Today we're discussing the magic of Aulani with special guests Simon and Robyn Watson from Watsons Do Disney, and Jason from Here with the Magic.

A positive welcome to 2023 from The Great British Mickey Waffle. 

John returns and helps take the whole team through the past year and look towards the exciting new things to expect from Disney in 2023. From Tron to the Disney 100th, from Disneyland Paris to the 40th at Tokyo Disneyland. We also share our thoughts of the changes in store to the firework offerings at Magic Kingdom and Epcot!

The Wafflers also continue their annual tradition of making New Year resolutions and you will be surprised by their look back at their previous efforts from last year!

The team this month are chatting about something different - a trip to a treasure on the west coast of the USA - San Francisco!

It’s a place that a number of the team have either considered, or even had a trip booked and planned (thanks COVID!), but this seemed to be a great time to review what’s on offer in this diverse and exciting city and the surrounding area.

But of course, we couldn’t have this discussion alone, so we were happy to welcome back friends of the show - Robyn & Simon Watson (@watsonsdodisney) and Jason Canapp from Here With The Magic. 

All of our guests have experience of the area and are all too happy to share their favourite places to visit, sightsee and of course, eat!

It’s December the 1st 2022 and my goodness, the team may be a little depleted, but what fun they had chatting about some VERY important news, and let’s face it - it’s about quality not quantity isn’t it?

News just in on the day of recording found out that in the Disney company it appears that when one Bob leaves, another appears, or in this situation, re-appears! Exciting discussions about what Bob number 1, who is now actually Bob number 3, should prioritise as his first actions back in the CEO seat.

Ben, Becca and Claire are all going to have the chance to experience EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays this year, and so they chat about the food, entertainment and experience offerings that they are looking forward to testing out, including which is their favourite of this year’s Candlelight Processional hosts.

Finally, Disney + is throwing a load of festive content our way this year, so what’s on the top of our watch list? Some old, some new, and definitely a Bob or two.

The Great British Mickey Waffle Advent Calendar is opening up a gem for you each day in the run up to Christmas, so don’t miss some exclusive dancing and brilliantly funny clips from our show recordings that should brighten your festive preparations.

Welcome to the Mid-November episode of The Great British Mickey Waffle - A Positive band of British voices united in all things Disney.

Claire has only just returned from the "Most Magical Place on Earth" and we catch up with her, jet-lagged of course, about all the recent updates in the parks and what it was like to have the first family trip to the Mouse since August 2019.

From getting confused about all of the clock changes, trying out new experiences including our favourite attraction - Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, to trying out Walmart with Jason Canapp from Here With The Magic. We're not quite sure how Claire managed to fit everything in just 10 days.

This month we set sail on the Disney Wish – well, not really, but when we chatted with Amanda Bauner about her recent voyage, she made us feel just like we were aboard this beautiful vessel!

Amanda’s podcast, Me and the Magic, focusses on Disney travel as a solo guest, but on this occasion she travelled with a friend, and they obviously had an amazing time.  She shares her views on the staterooms, the main dining rooms, food and entertainment, as well as the many things you only find on a Disney cruise.  Did she try the $5,000 cocktail?  You’ll have to listen to find out!

Welcome to the October 2022 episode of The Great British Mickey Waffle.

This month we are raising a glass to celebrate the 40th birthday of one of our favourite parks.  Whether you think of it as EPCOT Center, Epcot, or just ‘that park with the big golf ball’, there really is nowhere else like it.

Becca takes us back to the park’s opening on 1 October 1982.  It was very different from Walt’s original vision of the ‘Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow’, but there were already some attractions in place which we still enjoy today.  Any guesses on which ones?  And how did the park change over its first decade?  (Let’s just say the word ‘Horizons’ features strongly!)

Claire moves us on into the 1990s, and meets a certain purple dragon and his friend.  Plus you can find out about a Surprise in the Sky which seems to have had a lasting impact, and also how Epcot marked the millennium with a controversial wand.

Peter picks up the story in 2002 with the introduction of Soarin’ and a drive with some crash test dummies, as well as changes to Figment’s journey.  There are memories of the last days of Innoventions, including the Sum of All Thrills and its giant piggy bank.

Finally, Ben is our guide from 2012 back to the present, with a look back at Agent P’s adventure (sorry if you are now singing the theme tune all day) .We go ‘back, back, over the falls’ to Maelstrom, dine with princesses and talk about food and fireworks.  We end with a look at the park’s newest ride before we raise a toast – and of course cake – to 40 years of a unique and well-loved park.

With D23 just around the corner, we thought now is the best time to share our predictions and some items that are on our wishlist for the Disney Parks. With it being 3 years since the last D23 with so many announcements, are Disney going to keep it low key this year or have some huge announcements?
