Civilisation is an interesting concept-we often see it as a bulwark against the wild. And with the advent of things like *glamping*, we like to think we can take it with us, to civilise those wilds. But nearly 180 years ago, when the greatest equipped and most advanced expedition in the history of an empire set out to do just that, we were proven wrong, with gruesome consequences.
