In the warrior culture, falling asleep at night was risky business. In the dark, unaware of their physical environment, and completely unguarded, a warrior was vulnerable to attack. In light of this (pun intended), a practice gradually developed called “Fireguard” in which one warrior slept, while another remained awake, kept watch, and provided protection. Get ready for an episode that will fundamentally change the way you think about Jesus’ taking on the implications of staying awake!
