Ayyye your favorite Boyz are back in the building this week with some new heat, we got a brand new episode for y'all  this week featuring Ismail Khalil. This one is a certified banger. We're really excited to have Ismail on with us. Ismail is actually the best friend of Aquille; they have known each other since they were young and in school together. Ismail Kahlil is a former high level athlete, host of his own podcast called The Startup Podcast current entrepreneur, owner and founder of ReadyCar as well as a husband and advisor. Today Ish really dives into his story and takes us back into all the life experiences and struggles that have made him who he is and how he was able to bounce back after each event. Ismail shares a range of experiences from what it was like coming to Canada as an immigrant at a young age and experiencing both prosperity and also great struggle. He continues by telling us about when he first met Aquille and his earlier days in school being involved in sports and the obstacles he overcame. He shares a crazy untold story about an experience that he had in France  that completely changed his life and what he learned from it. How he overcame his PTSD and so much more, TRUST ME you don’t want to miss THIS.

Ish starts about by sharing a hilarious story of when Aquille cut his own hair and came to school with a huge patch in his hair. He continues by talking about his earlier days growing up living in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia for awhile where his pops had a great job and they lived very  comfortably to them moving to a Canada first coming to Toronto as immigrants and struggling seeing a lot of gang violence and relying on food stamps for food at times. 

He talks about how being an immigrant family coming to a new environment in Canada and the impact of seeing his parents working so hard at an early age. And being around older siblings and friends made him mature. He also briefly mentions what it was like being the middle child out of 5 siblings. 

• He shares his experiences in high school, as an athlete where he was involved in both basketball and football. It was football where he faced his first encounter with adversity when he broke his hand during one of the drills , which also happened to be his shooting hand for basketball which ended up impacting his ball season and he had to adjust. Not being able to give his full 100% in ball due to the injury led him into a depression which trickled into his academics where he struggled.

• He continues sharing about how he had to learn to be alone and really grind when he was out and not able to play, spending hours in the gym working on his craft. He explains how he transitioned to university and how he didn’t let his previous struggles of high school stop him in university. Ish touches on what led him to change from sciences to business, and the importance of trying different things and finding your strengths and playing into them

• Ismail talks about what led him to his trip in France which ended up being a trip that ultimately changed his life forever. He dives into a CRAZY experience he had in France where he was involved in the 2016 niece terrorist attacks being right on ground zero narrowly jumping out of the way of death. He goes into what his thought process was at the time and how he reacted. Further going along to talk about the after effects of the experience leaving him with PTSD and how he was able to overcome it.

• He ventures into what really gave him the drive and motivation to still push himself after that traumatic event. He expands on his business ReadyCar and tells us how it started, what it is and the purpose and impact that he is trying to make with it. Just when everything was going good, he faced another wave of adversity losing his niece which triggered his PTSD. thankful his wife was able to help him through as a pillar of support he expands on her importance during that time.

• Finally Ish gives us his theory of  the Grind he states that the grind is struggle and that adversity is necessary. The importance of understanding what drives you, making sacrifices and understanding that the grind is a lifestyle not just a once a day thing. He comes in having completed his masters in counselling psychology and holds many titles such as addiction counselor, husband, father, investor and friend. Zo dives into a  diverse range of topics varying from his childhood growing up as an only child in a single parent home back in the Bahamas. To going to school in a foreign country , the struggles he faced along the way and what he learnt. He also shares how he learned to become a man without having a prominent father figure in his life. He also gives us some hilarious insight into how he and Aquille and why he didn’t like him. As well as some great investing tips, strategies and resources. There are simply too many gems to count in this episode.

• Zo takes us back into his early days in the Bahamas and the adventures he had from playing marbles out in the backyard and losing, only to run back into the house to get more money to buy more marbles just so he can lose them again. He talks about having rock fights in school and sheds light on what it was like growing up with his cousins. He also shares a little into his athletic upbringing and how he ended up competing in the CARIFTA Games.

She is also known as the Donness as you will find out in this episode. Arlene is a registered nurse as well as published author and writer. Blessed with many creative gifts she is also a blogger as well as a spoken word artist. 

Arlene dives into her early upbringing and the struggles and pressures that she faced growing up in a strict religious family. She talks about how it played a role in her doubting her self image and being ashamed to appreciate her body.

She also shares a hilarious story from her school days and we learn how she became the Donness. 

Arlene also goes in depth about some of her toxic and abusive relationships that she had, and how they lead her to the brink. We discover an untold story of her struggle which eventually lead her to Edmonton. She talks about the importance of God in her struggle and the things that she learned from those experiences and how it helped her to look internally and change some things in her life and grow.

Ayye the BOYZ are back with another episode of the Grind Theory Podcast, we continue right where we left of with Aquille's story. He had just suffered a tragic incident which almost took his life, he was now in the hospital recovering.

He goes in depth about what it was like being in the hospital, the month he spent in Halifax after getting out and what it was like not being part of the team anymore.
