  • A Conversation With Ciera Granger, Leader And Co-Founder Of The Koala Corps.

In this conversation, Dr. Bob talks with Ciera Granger, leader and co-founder of the Koala Corps. Koala Corps is an organization working directly with Children's Hospital LA to raise funds in order to seek out the most qualified volunteers that will hold babies when their family cannot be with them. This is a wonderful organization that is wholeheartedly committed to helping babies and families, Dr. Bob and Ciera discuss her own baby's complications years ago which led her on a wonderful mission. This is such a heartwarming episode that you won't want to miss.

Ciera Granger is a wife, mother, and leader of the Koala Corps. She is an artist and loves cooking, hosting friends and teaching barre classes. She loves being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. Being a mom didn't come easy for her, and she and her husband, Dan, faced overwhelming difficulties when their second daughter was born with multiple disabilities and life-threatening health issues. Ciera and Dan fought alongside Shae as she clung to life at Children's Hospital of LA for almost six months after she was born in 2006. Their experience caring for their now thirteen-year old daughter forever changed their family, and now the Grangers want to help other families at CHLA who are going through similar painful difficulties with their children. That's why they are dedicated to helping Children's Hospital get the funding they need through the Koala Corps. Achieving their funding goal will ensure that every baby is held when their families cannot be there. This mission comes from their firsthand knowledge of how important and great this need is.

  • Part 2 Of A Conversation with Meghan Cox Gurdon, author of The Enchanted Hour and Children's Book Critic For The Wall Street Journal

"When children see still pictures and listen to stories, the brain's architecture is being strengthened and that helps set children up for success." – Meghan Cox Gurdon

In part two of this dynamic discussion, Dr. Bob and Meghan continue to talk about the importance of children being read to at an early age, why we need to limit screen time and so much more. You absolutely will not want to miss this conversation!

Meghan Cox Gurdon is an internationally-known children's book critic and the author of The Enchanted Hour: The Miraculous Power of Reading Aloud in the Age of Distraction. Her influential weekly column in the Wall Street Journal, which began running in 2005, reaches more than 2 million readers every week. A mother of five, Gurdon is a sophisticated, eloquent and joyful advocate for reading aloud and the social, emotional, cultural, and literary pleasures and benefits that it offers. (Well, that's one way of putting it. Another is: She's a zealot. Meghan Gurdon has been reading aloud every evening since the first of her five children arrived 24 years ago and she not only refuses to stop, but she also hopes to persuade you to do the same!) In the lively, authoritative pages of the Enchanted Hour, she draws on the latest brain science and behavioral research, as well as from literature and personal anecdote, to explore the multifaceted power of a practice that has origins in antiquity and amazing relevance for today's tech-addled families. Amid the depleting distractions of screens and devices, she writes: "A miraculous alchemy takes place when one person reads to another, one that converts the ordinary stuff of life — a book, a voice, a place to sit, and a bit of time — into astonishing fuel for the heart, the mind, and the imagination." Gurdon graduated Magna cum Laude from Bowdoin College in 1986, and after a stint in as a television producer in New York, moved overseas to marry the English journalist, Hugo Gurdon, and begin work as a freelance foreign correspondent. Based first in Hong Kong, and later in Tokyo, London, Washington, and Toronto, Gurdon reported from dozens of international hot-spots (and cooler ones), including Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Somalia, Singapore, France, Germany and Israel. Her print and radio work has run in numerous outlets, such as the Christian Science Monitor, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Washington Post, National Review, Monitor Radio, and the public radio show, "Marketplace." After 9/11, having had four children in three different countries, Gurdon and her husband decided to relocate one last time, to Washington DC, where they welcomed their fifth child a few short weeks after she began writing her column for the Wall Street Journal.

  • Part 2 Of A Conversation with Joshua Jacobs, Founder and CEO TGA Premier Sports

In part two of Dr. Bob's episode with Josh Jacobs, founder and CEO of TGA Premier Sports, they continue their conversation about the importance of youth sports. Dr. Bob and Josh also discuss in depth about why it is vital for children to play outside and bringing affluent based sports to under served areas. Enjoy part two of this wonderful discussion!

Joshua Jacobs founded TGA Premier Sports in 2003 at 12 Los Angeles area elementary schools creating the first after-school golf enrichment curriculum. In 2007, national demand grew for TGA's solution to making golf more affordable and available and TGA launched the first ever golf franchise company that specialized in introductory and recreational programs. In 2012, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) recognized TGA's success with golf and partnered with TGA to orchestrate their move into multiple sports. At the same time, TGA franchised tennis as its second concept. In 2017, TGA added six other sports to its offerings (Cheerleading, Flag Football, Floor Hockey, Lacrosse, Ultimate, and Volleyball).

Today, TGA has become the go-to brand for introductory sports and the nation's most prolific provider of in-school- and community-based youth sports enrichment programs at 3,400 locations nationwide.

Joshua was named by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 40 most influential people in golf under 40 and was recognized as one of golf's "Innovators" by Golf Inc. He's served on PGA of America National Committees, the Southern California PGA's Foundation Advisory Board and the Player Development Board, the World Golf Foundation Advisory Board and the USTA's National Schools Committee.

Joshua Graduated from Emory University with a degree in Economics and Business and a minor in history where he played varsity golf and club tennis. He is also an associate member of the PGA of America.

TGA franchises can be found nationwide as well as internationally in Canada. Its continued growth has impacted over 915,000 youth and will reach its one-millionth student in 2021. TGA makes sports available to 1.75 million families through its education-based programs and the TGA Sports Foundation, which provides access for all children and promotes the physical, educational, social, and character-building elements of these sports.
