Nurses have been in the frontline since the start of the pandemic. It is in our nature to give to others and put others first which is why burnout among nurses has seen a rise in numbers in the recent months.

In this episode, we are joined by Clinical Emergency Nurse turned entrepreneur, Athol Hann whose mission is to prevent burnout in the healthcare industry. He shares with us the app he created to help nurses and healthcare professionals enhance their well-being. 

Inspired by his own experience of burnout, Athol’s aim is for healthcare professionals to take better care of themselves so that they can show up as the best versions of themselves and give the best care to their patients.

Airline attendants always say to fit your own oxygen mask before turning to help others. It’s the same in life. You have to take care of yourself first before you are able to care for another person. 

We are now 6 months of being in and out of lockdown and now more than ever, we all need to take good care of ourselves. Every person copes with the stress of isolation and lockdown in different ways.

Society today teaches us to disregard or avoid our feelings and emotions. Because of this, our coping mechanism is to sweep these emotions under the rug. We push them down so far that they manifest into stress. Meditation and mindfulness are powerful tools that we can use to avoid overwhelm and burnout.

In this episode, we deep dive into how we can use breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness to manage and reduce stress and avoid burnout. Our breath is something we can always come back to. It is our anchor during stressful times. Being able to go back to your breath and using it as a tool to center yourself is so powerful.

When we are mindful, we are present and aware. By being present, we can show up as better versions of ourselves and for the people around us.
