  • 006: Reconnecting with Ourselves Through Lessons from Animals and Nature with Jo Courtney
Over the years, humans have done tremendous work teaching and preparing horses for a variety of entertainment and work purposes. Horses can be seen working with and for people in a number of activities such as horseback riding, barrel racing, and polo. But what we don’t realize is that humans have a lot more to learn from horses and every other animal than what we teach them. From learning how to reconnect with ourselves, understanding the importance of letting go, and grounding ourselves, Jo sheds light on what humans can learn from animals and nature. They hold a frequency that helps us align ourselves back to an equilibrium. We can apply these learnings to how we work and live our everyday lives. By simply taking a pause in between tasks throughout the day, we are able to be more present in each moment. It’s so easy to get lost in our day-to-day activities, focus on everyone else and forget ourselves. Jo shares how we can give ourselves the same love and care we show others. TOPICS WE DISCUSSED INCLUDE: Being present in every Mmoment (04:26) Indulgent Self-Care is what brings you joy and lights you up (06:57) Animals and nature can be our best teachers (10:22) Letting go and allowing cycles to end for another to begin (11:25) Advice for Healthcare Professionals to help cope with the crisis (12:45) The importance of re-adjusting and balancing the body in between work (14:49) The simple yet powerful effect of closing your eyes to re-adjust (16:54) Check-in with yourself regularly throughout the day (19:47) Offering yourself the same care you give your patients (20:55) Looking after yourself first (23:15) Dogs can be the little nurses we need (24:40) For full show notes and links visit: https://happynurse.com.au/?post_type=podcast&p=412 (https://happynurse.com.au/podcast/6-reconnecting-with-ourselves-through-lessons-from-animals-and-nature-with-jo-courtney/)

  • 005: Emotions as the Gateway to Better Health with Chambrie Ferrier
As a culture, we are often taught to avoid unpleasant emotions at all costs. From the time we are babies, we were taught to shut off these “negative” emotions such as sadness, anger or pain. Because of this, for many, the impulse is to find an escape from those feelings through external vices.
The more we push down, numb, or try to control our emotions, the more overwhelming it can seem to actually feel them.
Being human means being able to experience a full range of emotions. Thus, part of living a full life is feeling all of our emotions, both pleasant and unpleasant. By understanding the connection between mental, physical, and emotional health, we are able to understand our body more deeply and better deal with life’s challenges along the way.
    TOPICS WE DISCUSSED INCLUDE:
The importance of sleep and rest for the body (04:13)
How self-care equals taking yourself on a date (5:47)
Inspire yourself to be the best version of yourself for yourself (7:56)
Nourish your 3 Brains: Head, Heart, Gut (9:36)
How to listen to your body (11:30)
Allow your body to experience & accept your emotions (12:49)
Release techniques for each emotion (15:24)

  • 000: Welcome To The Happy Nurse Podcast
In this very first episode of The Happy Nurse, I share why I started this podcast and the journey that brought me to this place. Nurses are the backbone of the health system, always there to care for a stranger as if they were one of their own. Forsaking special moments with their own families to ensure that other families loved ones are being cared for. Compassion fatigue, stress, and burnout are on the rise in healthcare workers. Self care has never been so important. With over 20 years of clinical nursing experience as well as being trained in Mindfulness, Meditation, Hypnotherapy, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, I'm passionate about promoting effective self care strategies to my Nursing colleagues.
