Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSJoining me today is Caitlin Billings, author of the book In Our Blood. Caitlin thought she could neatly walk away from her past, until a hold-up at gunpoint breaks her carefully balanced world apart. Suddenly, Caitlin is trapped by frightening mental health issues while raising two young children. Part coming-of-age, part reckoning of motherhood, In Our Blood is a therapist’s honest account of professional and personal struggles and an intergenerational story of acceptance, self-love and fluidity.
In this episode, Caitlin and I talk about perfectionism, trauma and the path to healing. Caitlin shares her journey and I also touch on some of the things I have been through. We talk about the impact stories have on our path to healing, why we don’t have to feel the need to do it all and how we can build a practice of realistic skills to move towards self-acceptance.
You can watch the interview with Caitlin here:
More about the book, In Our Blood: From the author, Caitlin Billings “In Our Blood has been described as “raw, real, and naked before the world”. I’m a mother and a helping professional, two identities with pressure to be perfect, competent, and self-sacrificing. I’m pushing back and saying nope, that’s not real life. I’m sharing my personal account of understanding the meaning of radical acceptance not from an intellectual or spiritual practice perspective, but from the mouth of a messy, complicated survivor of the human experience.”
More about Caitlin Billings: Caitlin Billings lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has a thriving therapy practice specializing in complex trauma. She is working on her second book.
